Damn I'm jealous of your collection I've always wanted to hear the 595s and the Denons. Oh well, maybe If I have less hobbies... I used to own Audiotechnica's a500 and the AD-700s which were great for gaming and music.

The K701 are one of those headphones that I would buy just because they look so awesome. For some reason I forgot to put the DT880-600Ω in my original post as music headphones, I just got them and they are great open cans, large soudstage, crisp sound, and tight bass.

My current source is a Xonar Essence STX but I too need to get a decent amp, I'm trying to save up for a HeadRoom Ultra Micro Stack, but it's going to cost me about $1200. I've restrained myself from buying any cans until I get that, but finding it difficult not to snag an HD 650 or AH-D7000, I have a fever and the only cure is more headphones! Anyway, glad to hear you're enjoying your K701's, once you get a better amp they should really shine.

NOOOOOOOO!! Not Surround sound headphone! To avoid boring everyone SS headphones are poor value and they produce equally poor sound. Buy regular 2 speaker headphones and you'll be a lot happier.

Surround sound headsets always have poor SQ, a decent stereo headphone with a good soundstage is able to reproduce a surround sound experience and will always sound better.
 
I'm rockin the AHD-1001Ks from Denon. Unlike ol' genpatton here I don't see as much value in spending thousands on a pair of headphones or two for every possible purpose, and these have more than enough awesome audio quality for me. But I bet he'll convince me to get an amp or something before I know it...

If your not an audiophile you don't have to break the wallet and get something expensive. A lot of gamers are still in school (no job) so I would definitely suggest the Plantronics GameCom1.

Designed for gaming and I can vouch for this because I been using this for a while now and its my favorite. Guess how much? $20. Nice ain't it?

Learn from me, no matter how expensive the headset - they will break on you. At least the $20 headset will be less of a heartbreaker. However after using this for 6 months I have to say it very possibly will last me a really long time (3+ years).

i used to have a creative fatal1ty headset but my cat chewed through the wires and obliterrated them. I then attempted to purchase some turtle beach ones but realized that it was a pain to buy them in europe, i had a look at tritton and again theyre expensive in europe so i went for sennheiser pc151 headset that should come in the post soon =)
 
imo invest in a good sound card. Cuz even if you spend $200 on some decent headphones, its not gonna sound any better with a crap sound card.
 
Creative Fatal1ty Gaming USB Headset. :D

It hurts the ears after a few hours sometimes.
 
Currently I am using a pair of Sennheiser HD 555's. I know they arent the best out there, but they sound quite nice for the price paid.

I have them attached to an Asus Xonar D1, which I keep Dolby Headphone on for the surround effect.

I also use a cheap pair of Creative (EP-26 I think) ear buds for work and other times when I am away from my PC
