Modern Warfare 2 - We Need Your Help!

<div style="width: 500px; text-align: center" align="center">The Call of Duty Division is asking for your help.

Saturday morning, the community manager for Infinity Ward dropped a bomb on the Call of Duty community during a podcast interview on BashandSlash.com stating there would be NO DEDICATED SERVERS and NO MOD SUPPORT in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2. Instead, you will be connected using an IW.net matchmaking system much like consoles use, essentially making everyone use each other as listen servers.
What this means for us is no dedicated server, no admins, no custom maps, essentially no community - basically everything that makes eGO great.

I am in awe of the lack of support for our favorite form of gaming.
If we want to play first person shooters on consoles, we would buy a console.

This is an outrage, and I am asking two things of people:

1. Click here to sign the petition.
It may or may not help, but it can't hurt to try.

2. If you have pre-ordered Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, cancel it.
The one thing that might persuade Infinity Ward is money. As they say, "Money talks."

This is a great community, and we have tons of players. Let's see if we can get the folks at Infinity Ward to change their minds.

Even if you don't play Call of Duty, imagine if this were to happen to your favorite game or possibly the next itteration of your favorite, i.e., TF2, DoD:S or CS:S. Can you imagine your game without dedicated servers?

We had high hopes for this as a new addition to eGO.
Unless me make an impact now, this is the future of PC gaming.

i agree that matchmaking as an >OPTION< is a good idea. like someone said up there, it allows you to find games to play when there is noone else to play with.
However to not even have dedicated servers AT ALL, would kill the game for gaming communities and clans. Which is the biggest advertiser for pc-online games... You belong to a community, that community starts playing a game, and so you go buy it.
but if no community can build around the game (which would be hard without dedicated, moderated servers) then the game will not do as well

Hell thats the only reason i bought L4D, because everyone here was buying it... and as it turns out we didn't even build servers around it. because we couldn't. but because of you guys i bought the game.

I do understand where infinity ward is comming from ; However, it is a smack in the face to PC gamers world wide. As a community we love our freedom that PC games allow. I still am going to be getting CODMW2 for the 360 and wont be canning my order because the game is awesome regardles of dedicated servers. I would like to remind you all by canning your Pre-orders you are hurting more then Infinity ward , i work at a gamestop ... when you cancel a pre order it effects our store numbers , which then inturns effects the hours we get for employess of that store , which then causes employess to lose money on their paychecks because of hours being cut. Just saying that even with out dedicated servers , the game is still going to be awesome and try to think of the ramifications of your choices. I sighned and wish you all the best of luck....

I read from that respond from IW that "People have complained that they cannot find decent servers from all the hackers etc."

My god. How do those people live their lives? Does everything just come on a silver plate right in front of them. Part for me about PC Online Gaming is/or was as I play mostly on eGO now finding a good server.

Also, imo Punkbuster is a pretty decent Antihax thingie, and playing on servers with PB enabled pretty much kept the hackers away.

Also, even if they play with this matchmaking system, they may STILL round up with total jerks and punks and all kinds of people they may not like.

Only thing I find makes sense in this, is indeed the fact that this may lower the amount of illegal copies being played online.

Oh the irony, I will be playing L4D2 which indeed has matchmaking, untill they get dedicated servers back to MW2.

I signed it a while ago. I was super interested in buying MW2, but after hearing that it was going to be $60, I said I was going to wait until steam has a steam sale. Now, after hearing that it won't have dedicated servers, I'm not going to buy the game at all. My brother feels the same way too. So, IW just lost two sales.

I was torn on a few games I wanted to get with my budget this year. This just made my decision easier.

I thought the CoD franchise was done with the nazi theme?

This actually kind of upsets me, I'm a pc online gamers almost entirely for the fact that I hate the console way of doing things. I regretted my l4d purchase when I found out it was like that, and I'm gonna save myself the trouble and leave this game on the shelf.

ya i enjoy being able to pick a server to play on so i know that i will be playing alongside with friends who don't hack and play fair. with the matchmaking system most likely you will always get the opposite.

For the first Modern Warfare game, I loved it so much that I actually bought two copies. One for 360 and one for PC. I was planning on doing the same for MW2 but now I think I may just get the PS3 version...even then, I may not even get that. I might just put my money into something that will be more interesting, like Trine, Bayonetta, or Final Fantasy 13. There are plenty of better games to spend my money on now.
