New build in progress Suggestions needed

Well i'm debating again whether to get the 470 because its cheaper and the new drivers will optimize it from what i am reading well i'm going with the 470 its 350 bucks compared to 410 for the 5870. More bang for the buck maybe in the future i'll go with one of the double gpu cards when they come down in price this is always an option. Plus my wife wants to watch avatar in 3d with 3d vision

What ever, either way it will be better than 8800GTS

If you go with the 470 and you ever plan to SLI them, get a nVidia nForce motherboard. If not, then the one you already have there is fine.

Yo Nuke, if you really wanna snap and moneys no problem, go for the i7 930 + 1366 board + 6gb RAM kit. Leave everything else as it is - looks great nuke. A couple bucks more will get you that setup. Oh yeah, get this SSD - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820167023 . Funny thing is its $75 off the reg price of 299 . When i got my G2 , it was 249 at release . Actual read speeds on this drive with 60 GB used is still at 260-270mb/s and writes at 90 , at least in my system. My bro has his machine clocked just like mine and it drives me insane having to wait for his HDD while im working on his rig. I'm ready for some heat on this one...

I only go with AMD better quality and more bang for your buck plus i can OC it to 4.1ghz which intel i believe can't achieve. I will never side with intel they are way to expensive for what you get. thanks for the advice, i'll stick with the 1 TB westerndigital

Oh yeah about that mouse nuke...

Whoa... nuke I actually didn't look at your mouse selection till now.
I had that mouse for a year (logitech G9), and mines actually broken from wear shockingly. Here's why...

1. The rubber grip that comes with it will not last you. It peels off like it sheds skin, pretty bad. So you have to use the plastic grip that also comes with it. Making the rubber grip (which has a nice feel to it by the way) totally useless.

2. The long wire connected to the mouse, I had mines nicely wrapped with a twisty as a preventive measure from accidental yanks and pulls. Regardless, the sleeves will come loose just from use. You will realize this when you get it because the sleeves are really stiff. When you move your mouse, it bends... all that bending from moving your mouse over time loosens the sleeves.

3. Related to #2, the laser died out on me. Anyway I had two previous G5s and then this the G9.... all broken from regular use. I gave up on their (logitech's) expensive brands.

Other thoughts: The mouse wheel on the G9 is looser than your average mouse wheel (didn't bothered me, but might for some ppl). The G5 has the regular mouse wheel feel.

Just a heads up before you spend $90 on them. The first G5 lasted me a good two years, then the next G5 a year and a half. The G9 only lasted me one year. I guess it might be okay with some ppl, but I have a cheap-o optical mouse that's going 7 years worth $20.

Besides their bad durability... their awesome mouses to experience gaming with. Get a cheaper logitech mouse and get better speakers. ;)

Anyway the reviews are probably going to be good because they are awesome mouses for a while... :P I wish I can return mines to logitech.

I was thinking about writing them a long mail, and delivering 3 of my mouses to their main office as a parcel package. Who knows, maybe they'll reply with a free mouse (just not the G5 or G9) lol.

Nuke, i took my 930 to 4 ghz first try, 4.2 the second, with hyperthreading enabled and temps below intel spec . I could run 4.4 24/7 with HT off. Even if you could OC to 5 ghz, it wont make a difference . HDD is always the bottleneck at that point. My bottleneck is my GPU and need me a 470 . Guess it really depends on what your doing with it and hey, your not an Intel kinda guy, everyone has their preference.

I've had my G5 for exactly 1 year now and have no complaints, and thanks for the heads up on the G9 Cheez, i was thinking about getting one. Maybe this problem has been solved with the G9x.

Do some looking around on 965 overclocking if you have not already... 4 ghz= crash , 3.9 =semi-stable but crashes during benches, 3.8 stable.

Sure, Intel is more expensive, but there is a reason. It's much much better. And, an OC of 4.1GHz, like dbee said, is very hard to achieve on the Phenom II 955, and also like dbee said, it's really easy to hit 4GHz with an i7. Well, any of the new Intel processors. And you should also get an SSD. The harddrive is the most common bottle neck in computers.

Not saying AMD is bad, because they are still quite good, but Intel is just better.

yea i have a hard time breaking 4 ghz on any of the amd i have.

they all max out at about 3.8-3.9

All i-series processors are cake to OC to 4ghz + . My $99 i3 530 clocked to 4.2 NO PROBLEM , knocked it down to 4 since it simply dont need all that speed at work without an SSD...

i'm getting a 965 and to pay 450 bucks for a processor is stupid they are neck and neck in benchmarks. Also SSD is a waste of money right now the drives aren't that big and they are way overpriced. When the tech curve brings the price down i can always upgrade.

Its all how you look at it i'm not bashin intel. its price for performance. For what i am doing going higher in price isn't going to make much of a difference when i can just get a new mobo/processor if need be. Its like buying a car pay 23000 new or 13000 used. I know its a bad analogy but, when that car is payed off in 3 years not 6. You can just get a new one!

The i7 920/930's are $279 and $288 respectively, not $450. And they most definitely do not come neck and neck in benchmarks. Only in game benchmarks. SSD's are much more useful than most would think. Epic boot times, load times, and anything else that uses the harddrive. Sure, it won't replace an HDD, you'd still need one for storage, but you boot off the SSD.

If SSD was cheaper and had more storage i would consider it but, its new tech it needs to play out. Just like when the bigfoot drives went out new ones come in. I am talking about game benchmarks its not like i'm encoding and video editing here. AmD P2x4 965 is all i need for what i am doin i'm upgrading from a duel core 4600+ intels cost too much period they may be better in some circumstances but, again bang for your buck is what i'm going for thats why i'm going for the nvidia 470 and not the 5870 its 100 dollar difference for similar benchmarks

Also i've been building AMD boards for over 12 years and i have never been disappointed. They have gone back and forth over the years. I believe AMD you just get more for your money. Also again i am getting an I7 on the laptop i'm not a totaly fan of amd i just won't pay high prices.

Where did $450 come from ? 930's are $199 at MC , and $288 at Newegg as Bass says. AMD makes great stuff , no doubt . And yes they are the best bang for your buck. Sorry we got this thread off topic, i just thought i'd make the suggestion. When price's do come down on SSD's and you end up buying one Nuke, you will see exactly what i mean and simply be wowed by it as i was . It is the single best performance upgrade you can make when in a higher clocked system.

oh i bet! its just not for me right now maybe in the future and i was looking at the 950
