[Sexy Beast]

Story: Half man and Half Vampire, Blade is out to kick some vampire butt.

Review: Blade is essentially responsible for glut of comic book movies we've seen over the last decade. Mostly because Blade hit big at the box office and suddenly studios were willing to bet big movie on comic book adaptions. So this movie has some importance in film history. Its also film that frames style over substance and is moderately successful in its attempt. If you need a dumb vampire action movie...then here is Blade.

Director: Joseph L. Mankiewicz

Story: "Fasten your seatbelts. It's going to be a bumpy night"

Review: Wow, that poster is a terrible misrepresentation of the film. The basic gist of the movie is that it's about a famous Broadway star who adopts a new protege. It quickly becomes apparent that the protege is using the star to forward her career. It's a great movie, that play two great actresses against each other to amazing effect. The performances put in by Betty Davis and Anne Baxter are top notch and drive the film throughout it's run time. It's the kind of film that I really didn't want to seen, but once I saw it I fell in love with the movie. This is one of the best films out there to tell the truth and I recommend it wholeheartedly.

Director: Sergio Leone

Story: Two bounty hunters team up to take down a ruthless killer. One bounty hunter is doing it for money and the other for revenge.

Review: The second film of Leone's Dollar trilogy is a big step-up from A Fist Full of Dollars. The direction is better, the score is better, and surprisingly the acting...remains roughly the same. The biggest addition to the film though is Lee Van Cleef, who is always freaken awesome. Deffinitly see this if you are even in the slightest interested in Spaghetti Westerns.

Title: O Brother, Where Art Thou?
Year: 2000

Director: The Coen Brothers

Story: Three prisoners escape their chain gang and go on an odyssey looking for buried treasure.

Review: Delightful film from the Coen Brothers that plays as a 1930's version of Homer's Odyssey. The whole package is perfect and the only fault that I can find is that the movie gets a little too ridicules at times. With great acting from everyone involved and a brilliant score, I can't think of a single reason why someone shouldn't see this movie. It's a testament to how insanely brilliant the Coen Brothers can get.

lol, I need to do Dirty Harry first. Anyway I took the weekend off from reviewing...and I saw the new Resident Evil crap-fest...so why the hell not:

Story: Big evil corporation accidentally unleashes zombies. Pointless action ensures.

Review: Resident Evil is very special movie. It managed to take the bloated and convoluted story of the first Resident Evil game and out due in every aspect of convolutedness. I have to admit though, I have a soft spot for this series, it's a guilty pleasure of mine. The film is terrible, but fun and has action. Basically if you can find Paul W.S. Anderson's films somewhat palatable and love to watch Sci-fi channel originals, then I'd give this a shot. Otherwise avoid at all costs.

also i thought this was an ok movie, even tho i got to learn how they made some of the scenes. i never really got into the resident evil game series, even tho ive been plannin on getting the games. i downloaded the demo for re5, but couldnt beat the 1st herd of zombies (not sure if difficulty was on easy or normal). needless to say i deleted the demo (thank goodness demos will always be free). i still think the sequel is the best so far. what do you think bout the trilogy that just came out? i really dont think the 3d bit was needed, but hey anything to make big corporate movie companies extra $$, they will attack it.

I'll do the rest of the series before tackling Afterlife.

I do agree with your statement on the 3D though. Studios are doing 3D just to jack up movie prices and to reap more at the boxoffice. The new RE movie made I think $72 worldwide this weekend, which is probably due to the increased ticket prices. With that said, most film that go 3D were initially shot in 2D and then converted over and generally use old fashion 3D technology. Resident Evil: Afterlife used the 3D technology that Cameron used for Avatar and as such, looked pretty good in comparison to other 3D films that came out recently. Still though I find that 3D detracts from the overall experience and I intend to avoid it in the future.

Story: Ravenous zombies pour into the streets of Raccoon City. A series of continuity errors ensue.

Review: Here is one scene that can properly sum up this movie. The main characters are avoiding zombies, so the go to a graveyard. A graveyard should be a relatively safe place, but not here. The dead burst forth from the ground and attack our group of survivors. This, like many other parts of this film, makes no sense. Thankfully this film is far greater than the sum of it's parts and devolves(evolves?) into a big, dumb, ultrastylized, fun action movie. Still it takes a somewhat refined taste in cheesy cinema to enjoy this one. So approach with caution.

Director: Julie Taymor

Story: Roman General, Titus Andronicus, sacrifices the eldest son of the Queen of the Goths. Then in standard Shakespearean fashion, she creates an elaborate plan of vengeance.

Review: Titus is a weird movie, the director decided to do the film in a strange amalgamation of past and the present. Vehicles and automatic weaponry are present, but also just about everything else you'd expect in a period piece. The visual style of the film is more akin to a Tarsem Singh, than anything else I can think of. The story is based on one of Shakespeare's lesser known works called Titus Andronicus. This was probably due to the violence that is found throughout the play...and movie. It's an interesting and on a whole, enjoyable film. There have been a few films that have tried to do something different with Shakespearean works and Titus is the only one I can think of that succeeds.

I know of the film. It kept on popping up while I was searching for a way to watch the first (technically second) film I reviewed, The Horseman...which was pretty difficult to track down. I'll try to get around to watching it eventually.

Story: Zombies have swept the globe with only small pockets of human survivors cling together with hopes of survival. Max Max rip-off ensures. (What?)

Review: Other than the zombies, this film has absolutely nothing to do with the games or any Resident Evil lore. I swear it just could have been titled "Post-Apocalyptic Zombie Movie" and no one would have been able to tell the difference. Anyway the film is part Mad Max movie and part crappy B-horror movie. This chapter of the series is over-bloated and dull in comparison to the camp action of Apocalypse. Some action scenes are actually well done, but they're few and far between. Overall, this is a forgettable entry into what is basically a forgettable film franchise.

Story: Vampires ask Blade, the Vampire killer, to help them kill double Vampires.

Review: This is somewhat of an important movie, it's the first time Guillermo del Toro was given a big budget block buster. Sure he had Mimic before this one, but Blade II showed that he could take on a studio film with this big of a budget. It also set the stage for him to take the Hellboy franchise. This film is about as mediocre as the first. There some decent action if thats all you're looking for. If you want something more...head elsewhere.
