Sexy Beast's Top 15 TV Shows

Nope, it's just all too predictable and been done before. There are extremely few new good ideas for shows. I don't watch Netflix, Hulu, or DVD's either. I'd much rather be playing games where I can actually interact and have an impact on the outcome than just sitting staring at something someone else has predetermined and I have no interaction with. And I do mean multiplayer games online, because single player campaigns aren't much better than t.v. because it's all scripted to be the same every time, so even though you are interacting with it, it's still pretty predictable.

Fair enough :)

But I do feel like you are missing out on some good times

I used to be hardcore into WoW, so I get the multiplayer aspect of it. But, keeping to that alone can get outrageously monotonous to almost be worse than television. Plus, what do you do when your buddies start talking about shows, heh. :P

It's all good though, to each their own.

Alright, I'm back and a little hung-over. So far no one has guessed the top 5. In fact most peoples guess had shows that I had already admitted weren't on the list.

So you're almost against all forms of expression? That's interesting...

Title: Spaced
Network: Channel 4
Status: Ended
Original Run 1999-2001

What is it?: The story of a man and a woman who are looking for a flat. They aren’t in a relationship, but when they come across a relatively cheap flat that’s available to couples only, they fake a relationship to get it.

Why watch it?: This show is from the minds of Simon Pegg and Edgar Wright, the people behind Sean of the Dead and Hot Fuzz. If you like either of those movies…then this is a default must watch for you. If you haven’t, then this description from Wikipedia might sway you; ”It is noted for its rapid-fire editing, frequent pop culture references and jokes, eclectic music, and occasional displays of surrealism and non-sequitur humour.” Seriously this show is so good I gave the DVD box set to my 57 year old boss to watch. He finished the series in a week and loved every second of it.

My pride has suffered a massive hit...

Anyway, here is something to keep people interested. 50K of casino cash to who can guess the rest of the top five. Breaking Bad and Game of Thones are on there. 100K if you can guess the next 6 on the list.

Top 5 eh?

Breaking Bad
Game of Thrones
Deadwood
Red Dwarf
Arrested Development

I wonder if any of the series form USA is gonna be in the top 5. My favorite is Royal Pains, which has some awesome acting & some good jokes, but manages to mix in the drama at real good points. Cant say I can think of a top 5 since I rarely watch tv as it is.

Title: Game of Thrones
Network: HBO
Status: Ongoing
Current Run: 2011-Present

What is it?: An adaptation of George R. R. Martin's epic fantasy series.

Why watch it?: It's been said by TV critics that most series don't come into their own until the 2nd or 3rd season. Usually I would agree with this sentiment and because of that I tend to hold of judgment of a series until the second season. Game of Thrones though had an amazing first season, in fact probably one of the best I've seen for a series of this scale. Seriously, this has the possibility of being HBO's best series. It's also the best fantasy adaptation that I've seen since Lord of the Rings.

Title: The Venture Bros.
Network: Cartoon Network/Adult Swim
Status: Ongoing
Current Run: 2003-Present

What is it?: This series follow the life of Dr. Thaddeus Venture, his two sons, and his body guard as he attempts to merely survive both literally and financially.

Why watch it?: I gotta say I was a little disappointed when no one guessed that this show would be in the top 5. Well only a little disappointed, it's a show that can be easy to over look. It shouldn't be though, this show just might have some of the best written dialog and characters than any other show out there. Sure, Archer might be funnier, but this show is just brilliant. All the characters in the series are well rounded and all have had arches...which would be crazy for live action shows and almost unheard of for Animated series and no Anime doesn't count. What really send the show into the stratosphere is the overall quality of the writing and situations. Frankly, it one of the few shows whose episodes I watch multiple times and still found them funny.

Judging by your sig, I'm guessing those three would be the Stargate series...but what's the fourth?

Fringe. It's not finished yet, but I've watched all the episodes out there.

[Edit]
HOLY CRAP FRINGE IS ON THIS LIST.
I guess I was wrong.

Title: Justified.
Network: FX
Status: Ongoing
Current Run: 2010-Present

What is it?: This one is about Raylan Givens, a smart mouthed US Marshal who has a propensity for shooting people. He was stationed in Miami, when the whole propensity for shooting people thing forced the Marshal service to move him to Harlan county Kentucky. The place where he was born and raised. Harlan is coal country, where family ties run deep and bad blood is felt between the various families.

Why watch it?: Like with Luther, I could just say Timothy Olyphant and call it a day. But despite how great he is in this role, and when I say great...I mean amazing. The series has a lot more going for it. It's one of the few series out there that takes fleshing out characters seriously. The series also has a tenancy of having the most memorable antagonists in any series ever. Seriously, every ?bad guy? in the series is perfectly written and incredibly memorable so much so that in it's first season Justified had more interesting and memorable characters than what most series have in their entire run. Truth be told the first season is alright and if that was all I had to go on, this series would be on this list but probably rank #13 or somewhere around there. It's the second season that takes the series from good to excellent.

Title: Arrested Development
Network: Fox
Status: Canceled
Original Run: 2003-2006

What is it?: The story of a wealthy family who lost everything, and the one son who had no choice but to keep them all together. It's Arrested Development.

Why watch it?: Yeah, this one is a little obvious. Allow me to put this one into perspective for you; I had a friend who absolutely refused to watch this show because it had Michael Cera in it. We managed to get him to watch the first episode, after watching the whole series he stated that it was the best TV show he had ever seen. It’s pretty much the only show where you either love it or you haven’t watched it.

I should have guessed #4, especially with Henry Killinger and his magic murder bag and is #1 the Simpsons? haha

Title: Breaking Bad
Network: AMC
Status: Ongoing
Current Run: 2008-Present

What is it?: Informed he has terminal cancer, an underachieving chemistry genius turned high school chemistry teacher turns to using his expertise in chemistry to provide a legacy for his family... by producing the world's highest quality crystal meth.

Why watch it?: Equal parts family drama, bleak crime tale, and dark comedy?there really isn?t anything quite like Breaking Bad and not just on TV, anywhere. It is as if the planets aligned and our prayers to the TV gods finally came true, Breaking Bad is simply the perfect storm of talent and ideas. The whole series so far feels like it was all planned out; there is no fat, no missteps, and no waste. This is the best that TV has to offer and if you like a good story and great characters then either rent season one on DVD or go out and buy it.

Breaking Bad def earned #1, I only started watching Breaking bad 2 weeks ago.

I started to watch it and after the first episode I was amazed. I would keep saying 1 more, but I finished watching all 3 seasons in less then a week. Definetly one of the best TV shows you can see, and Bryan Cranston and Aaron Paul are just 2 amazing acters
