Why you should care: This is probably going to be the most contentious game game on the list, but it's worth mentioning. It is being developed by Starbreeze whose previous work includes the excellent The Chronicles of Riddick: Escape from Butcher Bay and the flawed but ambitious The Darkness. The gameplay looks like a cross between Crysis and Deus Ex, which is a good thing I suppose. Also worth mentioning that Starbreeze is one of the few studios that has managed to get FPS melee combat right.

This all sounds great except that Syndicate is one of those revered classic game franchises that people get all POed over when a remake is announced...see the new X-Com game for reference. Still, given the studio's pedigree it definitely a game worth paying attention to.

9: Agent

Why you should care: This is more of a reminder that Rockstar has a game called Agent in the works and sounds pretty freakin awesome. According to Wikipedia:

The game is set during the Cold War and will take players into "the world of counter-intelligence, espionage and political assassinations", according to a Rockstar press release. Rockstar has yet to reveal any details regarding the setting for the title other than the fact that it will be set in the late 1970s.

Outside of this premise not much is known on the game, but it's definitely something worth keeping in the back of your mind. Only draw back, it'll be a PS3 exclusive.
 
8: The Secret World

Why you should care: Frankly I'm not a fan of the MMO...actually, scratch that...I hate MMOs. Sorry Bioware, but The Old Republic looks about as bland and dull as any other MMO on the market. So for an MMO to actually peak my interest is a rare thing. The setting of the game is the modern day real world, though this world all the myths, conspiracy theories, and HP Lovecraft fiction is real. Oh, and there are no classes or levels, which makes that way more interesting than most MMOs out there.

7: Devil's Third

Why you should care: All I really need to say is that this is a Tomonobu Itagaki game and that any gamer who enjoys a challenge should look this one up...but I'll explain further. Tomonobu Itagaki is the man behind Ninja Gaiden and Dead or Alive. So chances are Devil's Third is going to be ridiculously difficult and ridiculously sexist. There isn't a whole lot know about the plot, but according to wikipedia:

The game's backstory is based on the Kessler syndrome theorywhere debris built up in low-Earth orbit may collide with each other and subsequently compound which causes increased orbital collisions, making the use of space travel and satellites unfeasible.

Anyway, the plot doesn't really matter in a Tomonobu Itagaki. It's all about the combat, which this game will probably excel at.

6: Spec Ops: The Line

Why you should care: Yeah, I know the Spec Ops series has not had the best track record. Frankly when the first trailer dropped it looked terrible. Then I read up on the plot and setting and the game sounds amazing. The story is based off of Joseph Conrad's Hearts of Darkness, also known as that book that Apocalypse Now is based on. Once again here is wikipedia on the plot:

The game will follow the story of player character Captain Martin Walker (voiced by Nolan North) as he is sent into a post-apocalyptic Dubai with an elite Delta Force bravo team. Previously, Dubai was a wealthy area with many high profile citizens until catastrophic sandstorms left a majority of the city buried. This caused many to evacuate, leaving only a few behind. One of the people left behind was U.S. Army Colonel John Konrad, a founding member of Delta Force, who refused to evacuate from a training facility in the city and instead remained behind with the men under his command to help protect the citizens that could not evacuate. After several weeks of no contact, the Army fears that Col. Konrad and his men are lost to the destruction of the city until a weak distress signal is picked up. This gives the Army reason to deploy the player and their squad, who must infiltrate the city, neutralize outlaws and survive sandstorms as they attempt to determine what happened to Konrad and his men.

Sounds awesome right, well it gets more interesting. The game is focusing on the horrors of war, meaning it will probably strip all the false military bravado that you see in modern day shooters. This is one of the few games that will try to portray war as hell.

5: Insane

Why you should care: Once again, another game where the plot and gameplay details are spotty to non-existent. It is a survival horror game is being done by Volition, the guys behind Red Faction and Saints Row. The major selling point of the game though is that it's being directed by one of my favorite film directors Guillermo del Toro and the art style is being dreamed up by BPRD vet Guy Davis. There is absolutely bupkis known about the game, all we have to go on is the lofty promise from del Toro:

With this new series of video games, I want to take players to a place they have never seen before, where every single action makes them question their own senses of morality and reality. THQ and Volition, Inc. are equally excited to make this vision of a completely new game universe into a reality.

4: Prey 2

Why you should care: I liked the first Prey, it was a flawed but fun FPS that made some interesting of use of environments and perspectives. Prey 2 is shaping up to be something completely different, with is Bladerunner like alien city and its Parkour game play. Oh, and it's a sandbox game bounty hunter game...yeah I know awesome right?

2: Bioshock Infinite

Why you should care: I liked the original Bioshock, I don't think it's the greatest game ever made, but I liked the game. Bioshock Infinite though has the makings for the greatest game of all time. Don't believe me? Well take a gander at this 15 minutes of awsome:

Why you should care: There is a lot known about this game and yet nothing really. All we really know is that it's from the mind of the man who created the original Deus Ex, also from the guy who created Hald-Life 2's City 17, and from some dude who worked on Dark Messiah of Might and Magic. Frankly I can't really explain this one all that well...so I'll let someone else do it for me

On topic, Ninja Gaiden is so ridiculously hard I don't know if I'm even wanting to play another game made by the same people. Dead or Alive, on the other hand...

Well, it's not by the same people. Tomonobu Itagaki left (possibly fired from) Team Ninja in 2008 after he got into a very public fight with Tecmo following the release of Ninja Gaiden II.

He and a few members of Team Ninja went off to make Valhalla Game Studios. Also Ninja Gaiden 3 looks to have suffered without Tomonobu Itagaki at the helm.

Speaking of public blowouts, I can't wait for Respawn Entertainment to announce their game.
 
Honestly i haven't even seen these games..... not interested in any of them.... minus HL2EP3
 
Super excited for Bioshock Infinite and The Secret World.

Too early to even tell if Guillermo del Toro's game will be interesting to me, though I have hope for it.

I feel like Guild Wars 2 should be on the list, even if you don't care for it.

Yeah, a couple of the games on the list are a little to early in development to tell if they're going to be good. I've been psyched for del Toro's game since he first announced that he'll be working on one.

I wasn't a fan of the first Guild Wars, of course that could be because I was really into WoW when I first played the game. So I haven't really been all that interested in GW2.

I never payed much attention to the first Guild Wars, but 2 really looks like it is going to change things up in the MMO genre for once. I think it is worth reading up on even if you didn't like the first game. Things like having no dedicated healing class etc.

Plus the storyline has some Lovecraftian influences, which is always a good thing.
