Hey guys. I'm 16 and I have a compTIA A+ Cert and I'm studying for Network+ right now. My buddy is A+, Network+, Linux+, LPI-C1, Novell certified systems administrator, and is younger than me. This kid is so impressive and I am trying to catch up lol.

I was really just curious how many people had certs and what cert paths they took. I am trying to go the security path and get Certified Ethical Hacker, along with security+, linux+, and a few other linux/security based certs such as MCSE-S.
 
I am formally A+ Certified. I have been wanting to get back into the area so that I can get a possible help desk position (anything right now other than McD's is better than what I got going on right now). What I would like is to find somewhere online where I can watch videos of A+ material without having to pay for the videos (I know the videos are available, but not sure where to get them). I did start studying into Security+ as well back in 09 or so because my mom said that she was studying that as well (shes in the AF Reserves & gets paid to go to school to learn whatever she needs). I always see this sign saying that theyre always in need of people who know Linux, so I may take a look into that as well.
 
I have A+ and Network+. Was studying to get MCITP:EA as this is the Server 2008 based equivalent of MCSE which is based on older 2003 tech. Once I landed the job I have now, I kind of stopped as I was no longer going to be one or the other (Sys Admin/Net Admin). However plenty of peeps do both. I'm actually considering the new Certified Healthcare IT Technician (HIT) offered by CompTIA.

THIS has a wealth of information from people that have taken a slew of the various types of certs out there. Can be quite helpful but there are no study videos on-site. There are a bunch of free practice tests you can find on-line, just browse that forum and some have linked to them. Make sure they are for the current version of the tests though or you will be wasting your time. You can also give THIS guy a look if you ever get into studying subnetting. Best help I could find on the web for that. This dude knows his networking!

Subnetting equals lolwut to me whenever I'm studying for network plus. I got my A+ 3 days before they changed the new regulation requiring to get it renewed every 3 years.
 
Well, for what it's worth, go to the dan's courses YouTube videos or on his site and look at the Class A/B/C subnetting videos. Helps to clear things up if you do intend to pursue stuff that requires knowledge of it i.e. CCNA.

Skagnatti, thanks for the info about Prof Messer's online free videos! Im seriously gobblin all this info up in my mind! Ive been waiting for such an idea like this for years! Unfortunately I just lost my job (I worked for a contract company), so now im @ my local Starbucks checking out every possible video that really applies to my lack of knowledge (which mainly is spec to the OS & network areas). Prof Messer really helps you to easily understand all areas of the A+ information without having to read a book (which I suck at reading since im such a slow reader & like to be more hands on, so this is the closest to hands on that im gonna get anytime soon).
 
Glad I could be of assistance!

Just remember, always check the test version number the videos are for and that they are in fact for the current version of the test. If not, you could be studying subject matter that is out of date, contributing to you failing the test.:O I just get paranoid about that stuff...

A number of free sites take some time to update their videos and such. I was able to tell with some of the books I was using versus objectives the videos were covering did not match up.

Hey rapture, when it came to the exam, what would you say was the hardest part of it? Ive been watching videos on the networking side of A+ & they dont seem to be going real hardcore on the networking part of it (either that or they just seem to be focusing on certain parts of the networking field of A+).
 
All of it was mad easy. there was some network troubleshooting that I missed. That was about it.
 
Hey guys, I have been studying for like bout the last past 2 weeks & would like to know of the best free online practice tests for the a+ exam. I tried getting on Techexam.net, but I have yet to hear of any word from the guys there, which im rather disappointed by that.

I managed to dig one thread up for 220-701 HERE. The other module may be available on the other sites recommended by the responders on this thread.
 
Hey Skagnetti, thanx again for finding that thread. Again another thread that helped me find more info to study. I like how uCertify has a guarantee that if I dont pass it, itll be free for me (have yet to hear of such a promise). I think if I fully pass it this time (last time only got hardware cert), then ill fly over to meet up w/ ya & either take ya out for a meal or for a drink (whichever u prefer) as a way to say thanx.

When I studied for A+, I used a few books published by Sybex at the time. One was A+ Complete. It had both test modules covered in it. The other was a Cliff Notes, if you will, called Exam Notes, again with both modules covered. Then I used more Sybex published literature for Network+. I found that even though the subject matter is dry, the authors covered the information enough for me to pass a slew of practice tests and pass the real exam the first time.

I strongly recommend their books for study.
 
What I also learned yesterday thru uCertify is that if I somehow manage to fail my exam (on the 1st try that is), they will refund me the package that I purchase from them! Talk bout some awesome stuff!
 
What type of jobs/career are y'all hoping to pursue, with the A+?

@Skagnetti, im not even thinkin bout failing the test (cause thats just negative thinkin), im thinkin more bout how difficult each part of the a+ test will be & what to mainly focus on.

@DragonD, frankly im hoping to get any kinda job that will provide me a good "cushion" of $$ so that I wont have to worry bout gettin a 2nd pt job so that I can focus on setting aside enuff $$ to replace the transmission in my car. After that, itll be to make sure my desktop gets a proper upgrade. After that, im gonna try & either go after saving up for a possible gamin laptop or start building an ITG cabinet (search it up if u dunno what im talkin bout there).

Even after I get my a+ cert, im def not gonna stop there! Im gonna go after as many certs as my heart can handle! Im @ the time in my life where im ready to get myself a gf, get my life & career in order, & still continue flyin while hangin onto the seat the best I can!

Well I don't plan on sticking with A+. I plan to work at dell (pretty much have a job 100% secured there the second I turn 18) While I'm there I would like to further pursue a computer science degree or More certifications. Starting salary there is 60k a year.
