M1 Garand Even Worse Than M1911?

:chair: The M1 Garand is terrible in this game. In fact I have changed to the M1911 Colt in game (as US rifleman) and found it to be even better than this gun. I find the weapon absolutely useless. Is anyone actually good with this weapon? If so can you give me tips? I love this weapon in real life but DOD:s sucks at giving this gun justice.

Thanks for Reading!

You can place whatever skins on a weapon you like, but when it all boils down to it your still playing with the same specs as before. The simple fact that the M1911 colt is better for you is basically all in your head.

I personally enjoy the Garand, it takes some time to get used to and I am not even close to being one of the best users with it. Shoot for the head, click fast, don't miss, and just remember it's all fun and games. Just like with all other weapons (minus the thompson) it takes time to learn how to use it effectively and appreciate whatever advantage it may allow over other weapons.

i love the garand. you must learn how to use it. make your shots count. watch beef or xante play.

Thompson takes skill in not only handling the weapon, but also rushing and doing mini raids in certain sectors.

handling, you know, keeping it in your hand, not dropping it, falling sleep, etc.

I have zoned out while playing, but i can keep the Thompson straight with no recoil at all....plus my mouse sensitivity is all the way up.

I suck with the garand. Only on my best of days can I do SEMI good with it.. I smoke em' all with the k98 though.

as the rifles go its stopping power seems booo. BUT any two hits with it kill so, just make sure your double taps hit. I am hit and miss with it though, some days im great with it others I suck.

I reccomend learning the K98 first, both guns have the same accuracy and the K98 is slighty easier since you only need to hit them once (most of the time). Once you get good with the K98 switch over to the garand and treat it the same way, youll find that you hit as much as you do with the K98 and might even get a few kills, from then on its about learning to strafe and make yourself hard to hit, thats the hardest part but what makes the garand truly terrifying in the right hands.

Yeah, the K98 seems to be the railgun of this game. I don't know, the m1 has a slightly lower fire rate than the m1911, this really turns me off, also I am mainly close quarters, which may have something to do with it.

You do have to adjust your playing style. I stink with the Garand too, but have been working on it. I can get a positive K/D in Anzio most of the time and that it definitely a run and gun map. Peek corners more and get used to looking further ahead of where you are at than you would with an auto. Aim for the head and keep your crosshairs at head level when going through doors. That way, if there is someone there, fire off a first shot really quick. If you get a headshot or they are already below 100 health, they will die.

Also listen to the Garand masters (Blue, BeeF, Xante, etc.) before my advice, though.

Thanks but I dont consider myself good with the garand or even the kar for that matter. Just get on and play and only use the gun you are struggling with NO MATTER WHAT. Practice makes you....extremely frustrated and tired of playing, so DO IT.

p.s. If Bad Brain says it, well it must be true, he doesn't say much and he is truly one of the best.

If you want to improve skill with the rifles, forget about points to start with because you will lose many (especially with the k98). Second, NEVER use assault class, as it makes your other senses and skills dull.

Brain made a good point saying that its a good idea to learn first with the k98. This will force you to work on your accuracy, and don't stop until you get a solid 15% or higher. Brain also makes it sound like the k98 is easier to use, which is not the case for any of the maps that eGO hosts. That may or may not have been his intention, but I thought it useful to point out the fact that you will die more often with a k98 on close range maps like the ones eGO hosts.

Other than that, play smart and use your minimap. Sound does not matter too terribly on a pub server unless the server is near empty, your reaction times are below average, or you're using support class.

On a side note I also do not consider myself deserving of any praise when it comes to the Garand.

Most important with the garand is strafing. A good strafer can get a shot off whilst not stopping and having it go straight. A good strafer is the bane of the k98 imo.

This^ But what i do with both the Kar and the Garand is something some would consider foolish, but others would find wise. If you were to look on my stats page (at least the last time i checked) more than 80% of my shots, were in the heart. Rarely do i go for a headshot purposely. That is because you are more likely to kill a guy by shooting him in the chest, than taking the time to aim perfectly for the head. And if you miss the first shot by an inch and just wound him, when in doubt pistols out. Thats one thing you will always see from any one of these good riflemen. If they miss or just critically wound, they whip out the pistols to finish the job. So most of all you need to be quick on the mouse wheel and ready to take your pistol out at a moments notice.

Objection! I can still use all the classes and get a positive k/d. The assault class made me more aware of my surroundings and a quick reaction time so it improved mine. If used effectively you can out best the other classes.
