Don't listen to Nik's post below. Cold's is a good post.

tbh, headshot

What I did was I started off with the Sydney Sleeper until I could aim fast enough. Then, I switched over to the Sniper and started aiming quickly for their heads.

Always try to get good hiding spots at first so no one knows where you are so you may get free kills.

Aim for Heavies and Soldiers a lot at first since they are the two slowest classes in the game and are pretty easy to kill.

Don't be afraid to bodyshot when its needed. Even if people call it "nooby", its a good tactic that even Platinum Snipers are doing nowadays.

1: Predict where the target will move. Put your cursor there, and when his head is in the crosshairs, fire. This way you won't have to follow their heads everywhere they go.

2: Know that you will not hit them every time. There will be misses. And blood because of it.

3: Keep moving, Especially against enemy snipers. The more you move, the less the enemy has a chance of hitting you. Except for crockets, then you're basically screwed.

4: Be an attentive listener. This is helpful when a spy just happens to decloak out of nowhere behind you. It help to spy check everyone you meet, too. If you listen close enough, you can even hear the direction shots are coming from, so you will be ready to shoot whoever comes out of hiding.

5: Noscope when the enemy is at medium-close range. It's still perfectly accurate, just not charged. Scoping and unscoping takes too much time. In these cases, go for the bodyshot to dish out damage, for you will most likely miss the headshot, and if you do, it is almost guaranteed not to kill them.

Onofficial tip: Run like the dickens from the Pyro. Like almost every other class, they are your bane up close.

The base sniper rifle not charged will do 150 damage. If you want to take down heavier classes such as soldiers/heavies/demomen you will have to charge a bit longer. However, engineers, medics, scouts, spies, and I believe pyros are all fair game.

Up to 150. That means everywhere from 50 to 150, so you have to extremely lucky to get a one-hit-kill with a noscope.

Nope, instantly scoping in will do 150. (Considering it is a headshot) Sorry if I wasn't clear in my last post this has to be a headshot.

Like I said before, this takes too much time at close range. And the chances of a headshot are incredibly small. Unless you're Nik. But no one wants to be Nik. Or Wilson.

Cool! I will use the sydney sleep now!

As a new sniper you might want to consider using the Razorback shield to prevent spies from backstabbing you until you better learn how shoot more efficiently and deal with enemy spies better.

One of the most important things to remember is that other players see a glowing red/blu dot wherever you're aiming at. So rather than aiming straight at where you want to shoot, aim on the side of the door or somewhere else out of sight. This way the enemies won't know that there is a sniper waiting for them.

I'm not sure how important this is but I always make a point to try to hide the dot if I'm not moving around. It's lead to getting the drop on quite a few people who look for a dot.

My tips:

1) Try lowering your sensitivity. Most snipes (with an exception of a few) run anywhere between 8inch/360 or 14inch/360. Personally, I run around 12inch/360. How to test for this: Measure the size of your mousepad, and start moving your mouse across it from edge to edge. See how many inches it makes your character do a 360.

2)Predict where your enemy is going. It helps you be able to predict how much you are going to flick or twitch to that area.

3)Try finding a walkway server. What walkway is, is a game mod that creates bots that move in a predictable manner or unpredictable manner. It aids you in learning how to react to what classes (speeds, big heads, little heads, etc.)

4)Lastly, have fun with it. If you are gonna think you are the next Nik (haha :p), just take your time and enjoy the ride.

If you have anymore questions regarding sniper, Feel free to add me :D http://steamcommunity.com/profiles/76561198047912210/ there's a link to my page. I happen to main sniper, and trained under a few great snipers.
