When i play tf2 on server's i only see alot people who play support classes (Such as spy and sniper)im curious. What is proably the most essential thing to kepe the enemy winning or you getting to your goal. i dont think sniper and medic arent team players. inless the sniper i sydney sleepr and the spy is focusing on the engi's stuff and taking out medic and heavy teams. but i honestly think engi and medi are essential to all games to win. if your a good medic not a single spy can land a backstab on you.

I wish I were a good medic. I get back stabbed all the time :(

I think it totally depends on the map and the composition of the enemy team. For instance, snipers might be more useful on 2fort than on some other maps, but that doesn't mean your entire team should be snipers unless the entire enemy team is also snipers (and even then you should probably have some spies to go throw them off…)

i can teach you how to be a good medic.

I see often 4 snipers on a team, sadface/

In my opinion, it's not winning that counts, not really. It's about enjoying the game, and if your team loses because some random pubs really like spy, then so be it. The goal is that they will see that playing their favorite class is not essential to winning, and switch themselves. It always bothers me when people say in team chat, "Comeon gys, we dont nede 5 spies!!!one!!" when they are playing spy themselves. Instead, they should take the initiative to change to another class for the good of the team, or remain content with losing.

That being said, there is no shame in losing. If you lose the round, but are dominating all the enemy snipers from taunt kills, how is that shameful? I have been asked why I don't play competitive. The answer is exactly that, it's competitive. Winning or losing makes no difference in the greater scheme of things. All that that course of thinking makes you do is rage, and that's when you make the decisions that you will regret.

I realize I kind of went off topic on this one, so Swamper, to answer your question, a good heavy medic pair can carry a team to victory every time. Just ask Varil :P

i apreciate you opnion, but haevnt you been on thoose servers or things where ur team is god awful and the other team instantley kills you every 2 seconds and more then half the game ur in respawn que. thats not fun ,thats rage inducing imo

This is pretty much it. If I want to caber demo I've accepted that I'm not going to win and I honestly don't care as I'm enjoying it. However if I want to play to win and I'm a spy with a team of 4 I'll switch off to be helpful.

agree'd people need to be actaive in there load outs. for instances i play medic and heavy the most but when they already have them ill go engi or maybe a class not alot of people are on like demo or pyro (scout if required)

Communication and coordination! The simple act of talking to each other keeps morale up and lends cohesiveness, but being team-oriented and coordinating pushes and defenses is critical too. It's not (just) what class you choose or what weapons you equip; it's how you play.

Just yesterday I watched a soldier exit his base in 2fort right after his intel was taken, while his team was telling him what path the carrier is taking and asking for help. Now people say that 2fort is just for fun and the cap score doesn't matter, but if you practice teamwork even when fooling around, you'll reap the rewards of that experience if and when it matters.

@mwjhnsn I agree it's a game and the point is to have fun, but if one side consistently steamrolls the other side, half of the players on that server probably aren't having a lot of fun (and I'm not just referring to the losing team). Sure it's often a skill imbalance that causes those situations, but a lot of the time it's lack of teamwork and coordination.

So by all means play your favorite classes whatever they may be, but be a part of the team.

My thoughts exactly, but the point I am most trying to make is that such teamwork can only occur if the players really want to. Each person has to make a conscious effort to make a class choice that will make a difference. Positive action rather than negative action can make all the difference as well. Rather than saying "We need less spies", say "We need a medic for our heavy, anyone want to volunteer?" The game is about fun, so don't anger someone by saying "You can't do what you want, only what I want you to do" This is why I don't get angry when pubs choose unneeded classes, as raging at them will only make them rage at me and then nobody is happy. On the same token, raging over a steamroll will help nothing. If my team is getting steamrolled, and it happens a lot, I make the most of it. I'll put my efforts, instead of raging, into turning the situation around.

Also, like curby said, communications are everything. Ask anyone, I love my mic. When I'm not in vent, I'm talking in game, and when I'm not talking in game, I'm on vent. Communication can make the difference between a steamroll and a comeback. The best is to have coms on both teams, it allows for more strategy and more teamwork, the way the game is meant to be played. The whole reason such a wide variety of classes exist is that no one class is better than the other, but every class played in harmony with the others becomes tenfold more useful than alone. Communications allow you to adapt to different strategies and situations, and are by far the most useful part of the team. This is the main reason I stopped playing Battlefield 3. Despite being advertised as a squad combat fps, the only way to communicate with others is through a tiny chat box in the corner of the screen.

(As a side note, if one team is getting steamrolled consistently, there's always !sausage !!)

But I agree with the teamwork. There isn't necessarily a given class makeup of a team that leads to victory, but rather a team made up of good communicators, at least some of whom might be willing to switch classes from time to time that pave the way to a fun and often victorious game of TF2!

It was a lot of words, but I think it boils down to:

  1. Have fun
  2. Stay calm
  3. Work together

I hate bodyshots snipers, there was a bunch of them today.. back to the topic, the most essential thing to keep the enemy from winning or my team getting to our goal is stick together on groups that would work fine, Example: Heavy Medic Pair + Pyro to keep out spies.
Another one: Soldier and Demoman, Stickies and Rockets can do great work together.

I enjoy playing all classes, so I don't mind switching to whatever class my team needs at the moment.

A++

And I will remember to ask for volunteers rather than saying "too many spies/snipers/etc"!
