I suggest a monthly point reset. So on July 1st, the points would be reset to 1000 again.

There reason why I suggest this is because I noticed players logging in more hours to try to get a higher rank up. After this month experiment the regulars of the servers, if they care about points, can see now that it is easier to rank up, then what it was before with almost fixed positions.

Clearly, never doing a reset, would carry with it the same problems that the old point system had. The points would just accumulate over time and the rank positions would mostly become static again.

Furthermore, monthly resets allow the admins to tweak the point scoring system and see what makes best for a non-camping environment. For instance, change up the point system, where flag captures are significantly increased. Allowing negative players, who cap a lot, to be near the top of the leaderboards.

Point-resets that take place rarely do not allow this opportunity of experimentation. It is not clear what kind of point-modifiers encourage the best kind of gameplay without direct experimentation.

Voted no because I play far less now as do a few other people I know who haven't bothered coming on since the reset. I use to be able to come on at anytime in my afternoon and people were a around now the server is sometimes dead as a door nail and I have to sit on it until we get enough poeple to play. Overall this point reset wasn't fantastic for the server population in time zones that you haven't played in.

Well, since the points reset we've had 4800 people play on the server... Considering the population of DoD, I think that's pretty great for a single server. I haven't seen any of our regulars disappear and the lowest population I've seen was about 12 and it picked back up fast.

Back on topic C Cubey , Megs said our next reset will be in July. So perhaps this is a 2-3 month span we will be going with.

If reset every month why even bother having them at all

It gives people a chance to move to the top ranks every month. If you did not game for 1 month, then you do not fall behind. Both the 1st MRB and the 6th RB servers use this (though I am banned on the 6th). And they are extremely popular servers.

How about change it to 3 months, and then survey the community if they want to extend it or shorten it?

Try 1 to 2pm European Time-- which isn't american time btw. Then tell me the server is full at that time because it use to have lots of people on and now it never does.

I know there are a few of us that don't play as much anymore for a fact as they are on my friends list.

It is an American based server - Lots of Euro players prefer to go to something with a better connection for them. Also I'm fully aware of time zones, thanks. No need to be rude here. A little more constructive input and less negativity goes a long way around here.

Everyone is completely clear that it is an American server, but it is still populated by a large amount of Europeans which is still being overlooked on many issues. A lot of European players put up with the high ping and lag issues to play on the servers.
If Cubey wants to change the way players gain their points and to encourage a non camping environment we need to look changing the structure of the Ava server.
Is it a pub server or not.
Can we at least discuss this stuff.

If people want competitive player can we not turn one of the other servers into a 20 man slot rotating instead of it just sitting there and reduce the classes to 1 sniper and 1 mg and the rest lights and heavies.
I didn't realise the server was broken that it needed to be fixed

Can anyone from eGO confirm that there will be a new points reset on August 1st? (If there will be, is it so with a new eGO T-Shirt prize again? :thumbup1:)

I think eGO should report what they plans are more clearly for all players. I have seen some players who are disappointed over the new reset on July 1st.

It has been an exciting June month. I have played a lot and spent many hours on the Ava server. The first two weeks was a good time, with many players. But as time went by, there became less "regular" top100 players (with good points), maybe because they could see, that they could not reach me. And they knew that the points would be reset anyway. I just think this will start happening every month over and over again!
Especially last week, the Ava server had no players or very few players, in the late hours (4 to 7 AM server time). Before the first reset there was always many Asian / Russian players in that time room. There is now only few "regular" players left from those countries.

If eGO starts with Cubey's idea of monthly point reset, I think eGO should make a forum thread with Top50 or Top100 players and their points, every month (It's a little cheaper than sending all these eGO T-Shirts to me ) I have actually made a new forum thread with this, but it seems that the eGO forum moderators not will approve it? Little strange when they every day have time to post what place their servers has.

I agree with the 4am to 7am server time assessment, but then again I was told in another thread that wasn't so however those of us who play those times of day should know.

Yeah what he said.. thats constructive and well said.. BTW my ping is usually far lower than most americans and I have a european connection.

I was told that the points were being reset again in July, but no one told me when. I was very disappointed to start playing the day after I finally broke 4500 points and find that y'all meant July 1st. Lol. I don't think that monthly resets are a horrible idea, but I'm not sure that our regulars who aren't members will feel about it. I voted "yes" though. 'Cause, why not?

I think we should combine Superman's idea, and Alicia's idea.

Where we take the Top 15 players for each month, and post the last 3 months on a webpage. (Supermans idea)

Then we take that page and incorporate it into our MOTD Spectator/Intro screen.

That way, players who have worked hard for their titles, can still feel accomplished, while at the same time...
we get the frequent score reset to encourage competition.

Actually all of that may have been alicias idea (sorry superman) lol
its still a pretty good idea though... theres not really much happening on the main motd page anyways.

I don't think just changing a server to rotation is going to solve all of our problems all at once.
but every now and then, I think people wouldn't mind a unique map just to break up the monotony.

if not even a different map, just new module/gimmick or something to keep people interested.

hell, just move the furniture around if you have to. lol

Like the reputation system, was a change we instituted a handful of years back... and its still pretty
popular today.... the good ideas stick around.

a friend and myself, created a server several years back, was an Orange-map setup,
but we took a lot of our favorite voice clips and stored them on the server.

and then we'd just play them back and forth to each other. lol we just did it to goof
around and have fun, but we ended up with quite a number of people playing there.

too bad we couldn't utilize the music player setup.... but instead of playing music, we
have it so that players could upload their own short voice clips, and then !trigger them
and anyone with the music player playing, would hear it... and to avoid spamming, make
it so they have to take turns, or once every 1 minute.

statistically we lose more players from when one team is defeated (by flag capture).

maybe we could make the "defeat", a little more fun than it currently is.

currently one sides weapons are disabled, and we all have to run and hide.
which kind of sounds fun at first, lol but in practice, not as much.

we could do something like... fireworks.

or lengthen the flag pole on the fountain in middle about 10 feet, and then the winning side
can press "E" on it, and a flag increments up... and that team has to get the flag all the way
to the top for it to initiate a firework event. (which would probably carry over into next round)

or.... whenever you capture a flag, instead of just standing on the flag, you have to stare at it and
press "E", before it is captured.... this means the person would require more team support in order
to capture a flag.

or at the end of the game, have your guns shoot flowers at people. lol not very realistic, but might be
entertaining. could alternatively done by pressing "E"

could remove all of the defeated teams weapons, but still let them fight, so they can either
use their fists/knives or pick up any weapon laying around.

could play a random "victory" song, because it could be that many people have unwittedly
associated the victory song with losing or with some sort of sense of completion, why some
people leave.

could turn the lights out, but that might be too difficult to implement.

its not entirely fair as an allied, as the germans can retreat back to their spawn.... where an
allied has to deal with it..... so in the interest of fair play.... might make more sense to add a
couple fixed crates by the sandbags next to their 1st/spawn. So that way... allied can
get into german spawn throughout the game.... which is only fair if germans can get into allied spawn.

Warren, I don't think there is anything wrong with the set up of the game or that there is anything wrong or broken with the Ava server. The thread was about if we need to keep resetting the points so that other players don't get disheartened and I think, would it discourage camping.

Shall we open one up on how to encourage players and different ways to get bums on seats in another Dods server

yeah I thought about that, and sorry for invading your points thread. lol
although technically the monthly point reset was probably a way to get more people involved and
more competitive, which is kind of related to the improvements of our servers in general.

and I'd probably be posting on another thread, but some crum bums don't know how to talk civilly
to each other, and the threads get closed. lol so there is that.

just because its not broken, doesn't mean we can't improve upon it, or make it more interesting.

I think a real update would be good but I dream. I would like to see more point's (10-12 points) given for a flag capture that would help get every one out of the camping mode.
