"American" is a rather broad category. That covers everything from Wisconsin cheese curds, Ivar's smoked salmon (hello Seattle), Maryland crab cakes, Tex-Mex, Bahstahn lobstah roll with clam chowdah, Chicago hot dogs, Brooklyn pizza, not to mention 20 different kinds of regional BBQ. Yes, I know there's regional cuisine in Germany, Italy, and India (to name a few). But I'm not sure there is a generic "American" food.
1) Love me some southern cookin'. Fried pork chops, shrimp & grits, anything okra. I'll lump most BBQ and Cajun foods in there too.
2) Korean. Spicy pork bulgogi, budae jjigae, I even learned how to make my own baechu kimchi.
3) Cuban. Ropa vieja, fried yuca, I'd drink batido de trigo all day if it wouldn't make me fat.
4) Anything off a food truck. I'd eat cornflakes with brussel sprouts if it came off a food truck.
