Idling and You

You can help your favorite server out simply by staying connected to it in the slower times of the day.T his is a proven form of server management.

For example, when you are heading off to bed you can go to spec and Idle there for awhile or even overnight if the server is not full. Or when you wake up and notice an empty server, you can join and Idle while you are getting ready for school or work.

Some servers need this more than others. But all of them need it occasionally.

Since we are in the slow time of the year for gaming, your help is needed!

Since I normally work 10pm-6am est I can idle in the Kalt server. Will start as soon as I get back from vacation.

Well, is there anyway to idle in a server and turn off your screen? I know when I turn off my screen, sometimes it locks out automatically. So, basically then anything going on would stop.

I may be the only one who feels this way, but tricking people into joining what they think is a populated server, only to have them be the only one actually playing, seems like a pretty immature way of managing our servers. Also seems to be a good way to alienate the PuG's who are keeping things running most of the time.

Got it! Since I never turn off my computer, I'll start giving an hand even when I'm not at home.

If I'm at school, would I be able to idle during those times?

I have been getting into the habit of doing this in the morning. I stay connected most of the day. When an admin needs to make room, I (and any other specs or 'seeders'), of course, get booted. Whatever I can do to help out...:D

Also, if some of you are worried about the extra power usage... no reason you can't idle TF2 on that old 1Ghz P4 with integrated graphics. 2 fps is fine for idling. :p and those older computers use less than half what a gaming rig uses today.

Ill be more than happy to help w/ that JohnT. Also with what Atten was saying, TF2 maps always need the idling, which is true!

Can we re-write rock-the-vote then to only include players. I was playing on a server earlier, and it actually required more people to rock-the-vote then there were actual players on the server :(

Weekdays I'll be in from 10pm-12pm chillin in spec while I'm sleeping and at School.
