Amazing Spy Video

Heh I'll tell you this much, the person on the ground has a better chance at killing the spy than the spy does at backstabbing, you just have to know its coming. To counter it though? Eh, think about it. Its still a backstab.

Shhhh! Let them figure it on their own;) Not that it's hard to figure out the first few times anyway.

To counter the jump, simply turn 90 degrees whenever you see a spy jump towards you. Should he under jump, he can't kill you, and if he does jump over you, he still wan't kill you.

wow that was truly amazing. I never even heard about the head jumping thing before lol.

To counter the stair stab:

Pyro: When you see him go to the stairs after being lit on fire or just killed one of your allies, aim upwards and airblast, then flame while turning 90 degrees. He can only backstab you if he facing your back.

Any other class: Shoot and spin 90 degrees, melee works best since hes so close.

I use this method and Kascade and the other spies, and they rarely get a stair stab on my now.

speaking of spies, don't meet them!

After that annoying video I would gladly meet him, and greet him too..
... WITH MY SHOVEL!

This is the best spy tutorial I've ever seen. (Some bad language scattered through it.)

Here's another one which is one guy playing spy, while a more experienced on does commentary.

i am not putting down this dude's skills...but he is spying on badwater most of the vid...and in my opinion that is an extremely easy map to spy on...i do it all the time, and i am a mediocre spy at best...and i tend to do very well on that map....that being said...he does have some serious skills and defiantly would make me say "dang i hate spy's" every time he killed me....nice vid...good editing, nice music...i just wish he had credits so i could know what songs he used..lol

The song info was in description of the video.

Music:
Pistolero - Juno Reactor
Drove Through Ghosts to Get Here - 65 Days of Static
La Femme Parallel - Thievery Corporation

I'm going to have to say you shouldn't insult people you don't know, Lauper plays a majority of scout/medic with a dash of soldier and hes better than most of the people you'll run into in eGO servers. In fact, I'd have to say hes been playing more of scout/medic than spy lately.

The reason he is a smart spy is because he knows how to deal with situations and, the more important part, he knows when to be and not to be a spy. A good spy wont play spy 100% of the time because they know from experience when its appropriate to send out a spy as opposed to playing spy and doing more damage to your own team.

that video had me mesmerized, those were some nice stabs
but not that many good saps or getaways (like someone said, single kills)
I also noticed there weren't that many people in most clips, small teams

I liked the soldier vid better, that guy had absolutely solid aim
All this spying and sniping doesn't seem very honorable...strangling people on the frontlines as soldier is waaay cooler ;)

though I'd say my approach to spy is a bit wrong...
I mean I love spy, cause I always feel like I'm doing something I'm not supposed to do somewhere I'm not supposed to be, but I play spy more as a vandalism class: get in enemy base, break as much crap and stab as many people, and run away before the cops get there

guess that's why I don't do so well...

Single kills, and double kills at a time are pretty much what spies should be facing, if you're getting more than that then the enemy team is really excelling in the oblivious department.

But anyway to talk about "vandalism" style...
Spy is made to chip away the enemy team's defense and teamwork so that your team has a very easy time plowing through the remainder. If you keep sending those loners back to spawn, breaking ubers before they happen, techno warfare against the engineers, or even causing people to forget the objective for 5 minutes to find that spy then you're being successful. Your vandalism strategy is perfect for it helps your team in the long run.

If you would like really good tips though, look at Lauper's other 30+ videos, they're all commentaries, spy help guides, and random clips he felt like uploading for fun. The commentaries are pure gold.

actually I started watching those just now, and it turned into a youtube binge =)
great vids...
(love the part where he jumps on top of idle heavy)
wow, he really pays a lot of attention to detail...almost as much as rts player keke
no wonder he's pro, guess I was wrong to underestimate

whats with all the third person gameplay though? is it a mod on certain servers?

Nah, he uses the Record function so that TF2 makes a demo file of his playing. When you do a demo playback its effectively a game with bots mimicking the game recorded. You can go sv_cheats 1, then thirdperson to get a third person view of yourself. When hes recording/playing hes in first person like we all are. Third person tends to be a bit refreshing to watch. Sometimes you catch things easier when you see the spy doing it rather than first person.

well that's what I thought at first, but then what about the voice communication during the third person gameplay?
