They recommend you back up what you need regardless.... but when i put on win7 it puts all your "old" stuff in a file called Windows(old) right next to your new windows 7 directory. Your 2nd question i'm not sure what your asking... the win7 OS is based of off the vista kernal, except it runs...

Divine Influence For once, a prayer was answered, it was last night. On turbine I felt the divine presence and i think... for like 1 minute... I was actually dominating Hex. So with gods help, it can be done.... but even with his help, it just wont last.

If anyone hasnt tried windows 7 yet, you should. I've run XP for a long time and didnt bother with vista:facewall:, but Hex informed me that you can download windows 7 for free. I have to say, so far i love it. Everything about it seems much faster and reliable than previous windows versions...
