Hmm as long as you don't have one of the newer ps3's that no longing support ps2 games then it should. If it is an older ps3 then it is most likely the lens not focusing correct on old ps2 games. I suggest that you try an normal dvd then put in your dvd format ps2 game and then a lens cleaner...
