In regards to the anti-ghosting change, is it possible to disable this for eG/eGO or just eGO? I feel that it would allow me to better admin the server, without having to swap to spec and go full detective mode everytime i die. I personally like to check for afks delaying the round and potential innapropriate sprays around the map while im dead (which is often). Also i would imagine if someone was promoted to admin then you wont have to worry about them ghosting so i feel as though its only beneficial. thanks -beau
I agree. When I die, I free roam to check on any AFK of either teams and move to spec if need be. I roam around to look for offensive sprays, remove them and warn the player if needed, or look for players who are not following the objective (this could be T's camping spawn past 1:30 or CT's intentionally not rotating in pursuit of a bomb defuse). This is being a proactive admin. This is what leadership should want from their admin team. Admins keeping their server regulated, efficient, and punk free.

Why make a change that makes it more time consuming and challenging for admins to monitor server happenings?

This change, that was not even up for a prior discussion with the Dust2 Admin team, was made by LE in hopes of preventing ghosting. Let's be honest, it will not prevent ghosting. That can still be done through allowing players to sit in spec for hours (which we allow), or by friends playing together and talking in a private discord - it happens. But it might limit some ghosting - mainly to those who don't pursue much effort in the quest. How much ghosting could this prevent? Well, about as much as we can prove someone is ghosting. How often are admins banning someone and proving that they are ghosting? Our suspicions are there, we believe they are for sure.... but our proof is nearly non existent. Prove me wrong otherwise.

If the change is to stay, because after all; it can limit some ghosting, allow admins to have the ability to free roam and spec anyone. We are not ghosters or the problem here. Do not make it harder or more time consuming on admins to have to bounce back and forth to spec to be able to collect information to better regulate the server. If it's a hassle, some admins may start letting some issues slide. Then it'll become a slippery slope. Then you'll slowly lose the exceptional admins you have, and gain the admins worth settling for.

10000 percent in agreement with you on this, wired.

^ agreed. practically impossible to admin and play at the same time with this change

I also do feel like the reg has gotten worse for some folks that weren't having issues before. i feel like my reg issues are a bit better but i think something else is definitely mainly causing hitreg issues
agree. its fairly noticeable.

I'm going to suggest that while the server has long appreciated a fun round, too many changes weren't wanted and certainly not asked for. Too many changes aren't required and can alienate our strongest client base, many of whom are not vocal. Dust_2 was the top CSS server and maintained its popularity, but not by sudden changes. I understand the loudest mouths get fed, but they shouldn't be mistaken for the majority of mouths that have fed themselves over a decade on the server as is. Fun rounds should be solely deagles and knives. The rest is of no benefit to the server or the game, as the CSS world of players has come to love over the decades.

I also suggest using this energy and these changes on the Office server. This would allow Dust_2 to maintain its integrity in the game of CSS, the population that has come to love and support it, and possibly create growth on the other server. Also, CSGO/CS2 characteristics should not be enforced on CSS. Leave spectate as is and allow the game to run as it was created, and allow admins to administer as the game was created.

The changes are also on the office server, no one plays on it.

This list of recommendations was assembled after I played the server every single night for the last three weeks, collecting feedback from everyone imaginable. The majority of the player base of Dust2 are in fact DISSATISFIED with the lack of attention and change to the server over many years. They are excited and welcoming of change and new ideas - especially the ones listed here. I’m not sure who you are speaking to, but I am afraid you may in fact be speaking with the minority voice who want things “as is” and don’t want to see change.

Also, a consistent complaint across all players is how specific admins from the last couple years have alienated the player base. The “majority” is actually excited seeing the likes of GardenGroveVW, myself, Cas, and others invested in trying to write wrongs and improve quality of life for the server.

I have no clue why I can't like a post.. but consider this a +1 lol

I have been present during your time back on the server, and I have taken complaints against too many changes. You're not getting the majority as you think, as that would literally take months, as our player base is older and plays as time allows, but plays regularly and donates. I don't doubt your intent. I understand and believe you think it's the majority, but I assure you, it's not. Yes, it's nice to see LE on the server, and it's documented that I've always pushed for that. Complaints about Ghosting should be measured and not applied so immediately. The top complaint has long been about the registration. Ghosting is not the "proven" issue that requires such a drastic or immediate response.

As far as complaints against admins, I can only say my daughters have gotten mad at me as well when they violated the rules, and I administered policy. That doesn't mean the discipline was wrong or not fair or appropriate. The server is no different. It's why admins get the largest numbers of "down votes", such as Cas herself, who, in my opinion, was fair and followed policy. She may acknowledge that many didn't like her, but as I said, she was fair, and I always supported and encouraged protecting her and other admins. Administrating doesn't always make admins popular, but it keeps the server "punk-free". Those same people also know exactly who to contact when they need help. Those same admins.

The proof is in the pudding. Dust_2 has been the most consistently populated server in this community, in a CS:S world of other options, for a reason. If it isn't broken, it shouldn't be fixed. There's nothing wrong with addressing the other Source server that remains empty. Everyone in this community who knows me knows that I am an unapologetic advocate for Source and specifically our Dust_2. Whether it's map rotations, quake, or CS2 characteristics, all of this can be done on the other server. This really is the most obvious resolve.

I’ve seen you on the server once for less than 30 minutes. While I won’t take away the amount of years you’ve been around for and the time you’ve put into the server, I strongly feel that the saying you can’t teach an old dog new tricks applies here.

Suggesting we should try and pay attention to a cs_office server in a game that is older than many EdgeGamers members reinforces that point, Immaculate. Players in Source have chosen at this stage what they want to play. There isn’t an assortment of new players who are jumping into matchmaking being placed into new servers…because that doesn’t exist. Most players have set their favorites, get home from their 9-5, and jump on the same server they’ve played for the last 3-5 years if not more. We’ve been through this exact situation with Day of Defeat Source where “new servers” just doesn’t work. However, where we failed in Day of Defeat was us failing to pay attention in a purposeful way. We took the mindset that we can’t change an age old server in Avalanche, the players don’t want change, the server doesn’t need attention, and the server died. The Day of Defeat community died with it. We didn’t listen, we weren’t attentive, and now we regret much of those decisions.

Dust2 deserves purposeful attention. That attention clearly grinds against what you think is right. Many of us believe the opposite. Time will tell and we will have to wait and see.

By the way…

100tic performance is going exceptionally well.

Pistol round is very well received now that adjustments have been made to allow player choice. This provides a change of pace and provides a “traditional cs” experience for just a brief time.

Fun rounds will always be controversial, but the tide is being changed with the implementation of armor and ability to plant bomb on terrorist.

Cosmetic wagering and betting was adding. The currency literally does nothing but is providing people something new that doesn’t even impact the flow of the server.

Out of everything, forcecamera is definitely the 50/50 topic. Hardcore players are satisfied as they feel it resolves ghosting in the server, making things more competitively balanced. Casual players are disappointed they can’t freecam. Middle of the road players are indifferent and are welcoming of a trial and test, more of a “why not” approach. Admins feel inconvenienced they will now have to go to spectator to spectate hackers or check afk. Change has pros and cons and you won’t make everyone happy. The good news is, if this doesn’t pan out long term, it can be reverted back. It’s not permanent.

I'd assume at some point the dust2 members would speak out considering we've been extremely active and fixing issues as soon as they come in.

Here is the car fax

I repeat, the proof is in the pudding. Dust_2 has thrived above all other CS:S and eGO servers for years upon years for a reason: our stability and commitment to the game. The majority of our client base has never commented on our forums, as the majority never speaks on mic during games. Change for the sake of change is not progress. Minimizing dissent doesn't favor truth.

All I can do is relay the messages as I received them. You are committed to your direction and have the power and support to disregard all else. You can't say you weren't told. You can only say you chose not to listen. As you said, time will tell. 🤞🏾

I don't know what I'm stepping into here exactly, but I do want to say I think there's a whole bunch of breathing room between the little I've seen. If you consider me an outsider for a second, I think youre both right. And its a good thing that there's a receptive audience willing to make changes, and it's a good thing that not many changaes need to be made. In both cases - I think what may be missing is:

1) A motd that explicitly details the changes as they happen
2) Some sort of voting mechanism for regulars to chime in

Apologies for placing myself in a place I probably don't belong. Just some thoughts.

Don't apologize.

1) I'll be doing something similar to this: https://www.edgegamers.com/forums/threads/390662/page-18

2) That is what the forums are for, 100%

Thank you for all of your amazing updates and hard works!

I suggest that the spray owner's name can be automactially shown as well so we dont need to type commands to find out the owner.

Also, the fun round limits, I suggest we should decrease it down to around 10 rounds. 15 rounds is little too long to wait.
