Webcams

I am looking at buying a webcam to talk to people through skype. I was planning on buying the Logitech QuickCam Pro 9000

Does anyone own one of these or have any helpful advice on this subject.

My brother has one, and it is a very nice webcam. Good mic, good picture, good framerates. I bought a Microsoft VX-1000 ($20 from microcenter) and was very disappointed compared to this logitech. The VX-1000 is worse than the webcam/mic integrated into my macbook. The Logitech is much nicer than both.

For your reference, my family only uses webcams for skype. Bro is in germany, I'm in chi-town, and parents live in boring-ville.

Yea the logitech webcams tend to be very good. The framerates are very good and you wont see any like lagging. The picture quality also isn't bad and is fairly good for a webcam. It beats the Apple webcams since i have a logitech webcam and the new Macbook pro and have compared them.

I have this myself, as well as purchased it for a long distance friend who I wanted to keep in touch with (both visually and verbally). Very good picture quality, good framerates. I would definitely buy it again.

One thing to keep in mind, make sure you install the drivers for it. While you'll have decent picture quality with the drivers that windows will automatically install for it, you definitely get a lot better picture quality if you install the drivers from the website. Plus, it comes with some software so you can mess around too if you want.
