HI, my name is Romanx22 i have tried to make a jail map many times but have never succeeded, one of the problems was it said the coordinates are too long, if anyone could give me instructions please do i would love to make one!

ps. i used source sdk

Making a jail map is hard work,if your a beginner to mapping, DONT even think of projects that big, start small.

A good website for mapping tuts is interlopers.net

p.s You HAVE to use Source SDK Hammer xP

Dont try and cram your map full of stuff. Build your entire layout (rooms, corridors) then start adding stuff. cramming your map only makes the rest harder.

Never, ever expect your first 10 - 30 maps to be good or to release them to the public. My first released DoD:S map was like my 33rd and it didnt look good even after 8 months after mapping but over the years you learn more and get better at it.

Practice makes perfect.

Time is an invaluable ingredient in making a good, well thought out map.

Your first version of a map will never be your final, but your final version will be your first.

Thanks alot guys for all you input, hopefully someday EGO will put one of my maps in their map cycle!

Epic way to put it.

Totally agree with the above. Mapping is an art as much as it is a science. Unless you are willing to work your ass off to make a map (My 1st map 200+ hours and continuing) then I wouldn't start. I'm not trying to discourage you but chances are like Rogue said your first map will not be so good.

When I got started I used familiar maps and decompiled them to figure out distances and sizes. The biggest tip I could give you is to draw it out/create a blueprint before you begin. It'll make it easier for you to visualize your map and make changes before you commit in source sdk and lose a ton of time if you don't like what you see.

Seriously planning and doing the layout should consume a lot of your time. Try to have fun though if you are mapping!
