Hey guys, you will be seeing more of me, probably from saturday and now on.
I'm on my PlayStation 3 Linux by the way.. haha

I paid around $460 for the computer. Here are my specs.

AMD 64 X2 4200+ Brisbane
AMD Radeon x1950GT 256mb
nForce 520 Motherboard
2gb DDR2 4200 RAM
160gb Harddrive
DVD+-RW
Logisys Area 51 Case
480 Watt Power Supply
HP 17" Flat CRT Monitor

Great thing is... all of those thigns are located in my state, so I get it the day after they ship it! (Newegg, eBay)
 
not bad, but the power supply looks a little low u need something with 600+watts
 
Rogue Sniper - Please dont tell people that they need a 600Watt power supply for a X2 4200+ based computer. Its just factually incorrect. I've seen you add comments liek this often - or respond to people without readin what they said and just making random reccomendations. I liek that you are trying to help but it doesnt help anyone to just say random stuff.

If one was to add up his components you would see that his 480 wat processor is adequate for his system and would even run on 400watts, although that might be too close for my comfort with the generation video card beig used.

Sounds like a good deal and I hope you enjoy playing on your new computer bud.
 
lol Green monkey.. im going to have to go with rogue on this one. You may be correct in the sense that a 600w ps is not needed NOW, on his PC, but you have to understand that you never ever ever want your computer to use up 100% of its power supply. it's the best way to burn out your fan, your system, cause extra heat, and damage components. and nowadays computers aren't just 'replaced' anymore.. parts are... so if liberty ever decides to upgrade his processor, RAM, vid card etc he is going to need a better PS. and 480 is really low (but again adequate for what he has). Also dude, not that i'm one to talk, but you can say stuff like that through PM, no need to post it.

Flavor acid - i posted it in here because its the tech talk forum so the 'debate' is actually usefull. You completely do not need to explain to me that computers get updated. In fact, I have a registered computer business.

I pose this question: What could would it be to get a 600watt PS now when he isnt going to update his machine for a year or many more - by that time they will be cheaper and possibly 600 watts wont be enough (possibly). My comment wasnt against recomending someoen to get a bigger PS then they absolutely need, it was with telling someone with a bargain pc that was already paid for that they "NEED" to get a new PS or else the computer sux. That is just inacurate.

and 480watts is not very low - do you guys realise exactly how many watts of power you guys are actually using? Most laptops run on 100watts or less. So, add in some wattage for a less power friendly cpu and the giant graphics cards of today - a second cd drive and maybe a few more hard drives. I wonder if maybe you should do the calculations out sometime. 480watt is not cutting it close it is perfect for what he needs and there is no need to get him to buy another PS now and let it depreciate when he could save the money and but it if and when he needs it. This wasnt a power pc post its a great deal pc post and I tink some people out there just dont understand that computer can be good without the lated quad core quad 8800gtx's.
 
Like GreenMonkey said, a 480W or even a 400W PSU is fine for that setup. Brisbane's are quite power efficient and that video card is not exactly a monster, so 600 Watts is completely unnecessary. Even a brand new 8800 Ultra can run on a system with less than 600 Watts. I have said it time and again: as far as video cards are concerned, amperage is generally the bigger deal. Watts are more important for systems that are going to be using a lot of additional parts and accessories (i.e. additional hard disks and optical drives, multiple video cards, etc.)
 
Thanks down - Although as a student in ECE I feel obligated to point out that Watts (which is power) is directly linked to amperage (current) since the voltage will remain constant.

However, you are completely correct - even my computer with it's 8800gts doesnt have 600 Watts. But, I do have more than 480 Watts. Again I think people shoudl take the time to read the specs (not the reccomended wattage) but the specs for each component in their computer and see how much power (watts) they are really using. You might be surprised.
