TOday our household purchased a D-Link WBR-2310 rangebooster G router wireless... thing
The set up instructions were followed properly, and internet to our main computers is working.
However, any attempt to access the wireless has failed.
Laptops, my ipod touch, nothing has connected.

Any help on whats wrong and how to fix it is greatly appreciated.

Make sure you copy down the WPA key, EXACTLY how it is. Then for any wireless things you'll need to put that in.

id never be able to fix it unless i was there :( .. or even give good advice.. not that great of a networker

If there's an option try broadcasting in mixed mode. I'm not sure how D-Link's options are, but there should be an option for what type of network mode. Also, is your network a static network or do you use DHCP?

it worked baby jam
thanks very much :)

well thats the password then
is there anyway to change that?
i mustve set something else as the password i wanted :S

In regards to your password, see your instructions on how to access the config panel.

HOWEVER, by default setup, there will not be any passwords already installed.

Does your laptop "see" the network, but just can't connect to it?

He probably means the passwords to administrate the router, which usually has a pretty generic default password which you definitely need to change right away.

WEP, WPA and ALL other "key" protections are hackable. I've studied wireless security. My advice to you is to turn on "MAC Address Filtering" and tell your wireless router to only communicate with what MAC addresses you wish.

+1

That is how I have my home wireless set up (mac filter)

Mac address filtering is nice if you don't plan on having any additional computers coming over randomly and needing wireless.

If that is a problem then just make sure you are using WPA2 at least. It is the accepted standard for now.

The mac thing is really clever but
I'm not a tech genius
we got everything up and running
much thanks to everyone

waldo, you don't have to be a genius to be secure. I understand your hesitation. but i can talk you through it.

start menu>run>type: cmd> then type: ipconfig

then it will tell you a few lines down what the mac address is. then you take that number and put it in the MAC address filter on your router. it's the simple! :) let me know if you want to try. I'd be happy to help. it's what I am studying to do as a career.
