My dads netbook seems to be having some kinda connectivity issue. Its a Toshiba netbook (shouldnt need specs since its the same specs as most netbooks). Anyways, weve had this netbook for around 30 days, maybe more. Well my dad came into my room 2x today because of the internet not working on it. Something ive noticed is that it cant or wont search out for any networks available. The router is in my room & the netbook is like id say 1 foot away but its still not detecting any networks. Any possible ideas? Im thinking the network card may have gone out on this puppy. All the tcp/ip settings are correct btw.

It could be something simple like a loose connection between the antenna and the wireless card, or might be something with the wireless card itself. Is it easy to access the wireless card on that model to check it out?

Hey, theres really no wireless card, its all wi-fi. I would have mentioned that if there was a wireless card. Besides, all netbooks are designed to run off of wi-fi capable connections. Now if someone wants to use a wireless card via some cell phone company, then it has to be usb-compatible. With us, its just straight wi-fi.

Quick question, is this the only wireless device you are using?

I understand that the WiFi is integrated, but in every netbook/notebook that I've worked on , there has still been a wireless card :P. They don't integrate that into the motherboard, for the most part. Just throwing something out there based on my experience repairing similar machines :).

Tried to reload the factory driver for the wireless nic or updated to newest driver? Checked the software that searches for wifi connections for updates or reloaded it all together? Searched for viruses/spyware? Able to connect via wired connection? All devices functioning correctly in device manager? Any errors in Event Viewer? Manual deleted the wireless device of the netbook off the routing table to see if it will auto connect? Are you even recieving an ip address from DHCP? If MAC filtering is set up, double check the MAC's or disable is temporary and see if it can find anything.

Well just got back from Best Buy. Apparently you hit it right on the button gothroach. It was the wireless card. Somehow it activated itself & turned off the wi-fi to where it defaulted on itself. Well thankfully the Geeksquad agent showed me how to deactivate it, so now the netbook defaults on the wi-fi now.

Try power cycling the wireless router, then clicking "Repair connection" for the laptop wireless.
