What do you mean?

right click >> properties >> and then just change your display to solid color.

i knew how to do that now i jus want the icons to b gray also. or transpatent

Well after you are done messing with your windows color theme and color settings you could always ::gulp:: delete all your icons and have a black and white background immage.

I hate tons of icons - anything more than 3 is way too many for me. I just drag my start bar to be double wide and make the top row be the quicklaunch bar. I have about 35 quick launch buttons and its far cleaner.

I'm guessing you want the start menu thingie to be gray. Since I haven't used XP for a while, I'm going to try and type this from memory.

Right click your desktop and click properties. I think its the first tab where you can select from silver, blue, or olive.
