Ok well my computer hates me. It will restart at random times and bring up that scary blue screen that says I should contact someone if it happens again(I know thats not a good sign.) Ive fixed the virus's like 15 times this month, but then when I scan it again they are still there. Does it have to do with the virus's or do I just need a new computer??

Well, sometimes that means there is an internal error, or some sort of virus, maybe you should try defragging your PC then running antivirus?

How did you get the viruses in the first place? Puzzle's me that I've never had one and never needed an anti virus.

Edit: Might be because I never let my girlfriend on my computer :p

What are you using for an antivirus program?

Try downloading Trend Micro HijackThis and running the .exe, then click "Do a system scan and save a log file"

  • Make sure you don't click "Fix selected problems," you could end up deleting a lot of important system files.
Either copy the text out of the log file and post it, or upload the .log file to a file hosting site and post the link here.

I fixed this lady's PC awhile back that had similar symptoms that you were describing, Violet. It could be a number of this. One could be something virus or spyware related. Even if you do the scans and it fixes them, if it's a rootkit virus, alot of the times the virus you think you got is just a dummy, and if its a rootkit it'll be hiding in the boot sector of the HD, a place normal virus scanners normally do not look at. Sometimes it could be a simply driver issue, or perhaps something with Windows is corrupted. A couple of things you could do to help is to either take a picture of your screen when it goes to bluescreen or could write down the error code (if it says it). That'll usually give you a starting point to look at where to go. The error code will look something like this:

IRQ_LESS_THAN_OR_EQUAL 0x0000000 (0x0000000, 0x0000000, 0x0000000)

Or something along the lines of that, not necessarily that specifically. Also, some things you can do is to go to safe mode and do your virus scans from there. But best thing to do right now is do your scans in safe mode (press F8 as soon as you turn on your PC to get the boot option menu), and if you get another bluescreen, to give us the error code. From there we can determine whether if its something virus related, driver related or a corruption of Windows. Hope this helps!

If you're getting the blue screen of death, i would recomend reformating your hard drive.

cuz chances are that blue screen is a system file error.

Also make sure your computer isn't running too hot... a computer will restart if the CPU gets to hot. It's an Intel safegaurd.

Yeah, chances are it's a system file error, though I wouldn't necessarily say that reformatting is the only option. I've have had countless amounts of BSoDs in my time and the majority of them were driver faults that a simple installation fixed. The pain is finding out -which- one it is.

Violethawkthorne,

If you aren't successful with removing the virus using all the items in your anti-virus arsenal, you can always try these options to try to remove the virus:

Try the steps used in this tread: http://edgegamers.org/forums/showthread.php?t=63455

If none of those options work, try these last resort options:

Last Resort 1:
If you have a rough idea of when you got the virus you can do a system restore. This windows feature restores your computer to a time before it acquired the virus.

Steps:
  1. Press the windows start button on your task bar.
  2. Go to your programs list and look in your accessories folder under this menu
  3. Go to system tools
  4. Click on system restore
  5. Run the system restore wizard
*Note* Your computer will take a little longer to restart because it has to restore the last known good configuration. This will not delete any important documents, projects, pictures, etc. However, it will not restore any lost files. If you have McAffee anti-virus, you will most likely need to reinstall it.

Last Resort 2:
Your last resort is a destructive restore. That word destructive makes me cringe. You will want to make a backup/copy of all important documents, pictures, etc. THIS WILL DELETE EVERYTHING.

Creating a backup:
If you are lazy like me, just copy and paste your documents and pictures to a flash drive or external hard drive. But the most efficient way is to use the backup wizard. To get to the wizard follow the following steps:

Steps:

  1. Press the windows start button on your task bar.
  2. Go to My Computer (XP) or Computer (Vista)
  3. Right click on your local disk ( C: ) drive
  4. Go to Properties
  5. Once in Properties, click on the Tools Tab.
  6. Click the Backup Now button and follow the wizard instructions.
*Note*This will make a backup file of the files and folders you specified. Save this on an external hard drive or flash drive.

Now you will need to go through the destructive restoration process. To start this process. You will want to make sure if your computer was purchased through a company that you have a restoration disk. If it was a custom built computer, have your Windows Operating System Disk on hand.
Insert the disk and follow the instructions. Hopefully you will not have to use this option.

*Note* This restores your computer to its original state. All windows updates and system drivers will need to be reinstalled.

You should not have to buy a new computer what so ever.

Regards,

lol well im using the redumbrella antivirus and mcacfee... or however you spell it >.< So i really dont know whats wrong...

You think it is the virus creating the issue?

What is the name of the virus when it comes up with a virus scan?

There is also another program that I've found to be extremely successful in removing just about any Malware and rootkit I've ever ran into. I would recommend that you jump into my chat and talk with either myself or one of the other representatives before you try it out. While I've never had any problems with it, it does come with a very nice warning.

If you believe that a virus/malware is your problem then this little program will almost guaranteed remove it.
