Insta-Crash

So this problem just developed, and I have no idea why. Any HL2 game now instatly crashes upon starting up. It doesn't even get to the game itself. I see the "Starting DoD: Source" in STEAM, and then "HL2.exe has stopped working" almost immediately afterward.

Same error with all other HL2 games. Any thoughts?

Have you tried deleting all local content and re-installing DoD?

Its an option when you right click DoD in the games menu.

Have you installing and patches to you OS or and new drivers?

I found the problem. A new version of AIM messed with WMI settings... a quick system restore to yesterday solved the problem.

Any AIM that includes "tritan" or whatever they call it is extremely terrible. However, I personally do not like gaim (the windows version) or trillian for long term use. So what is a fellow like myself to do?
