I bought an Ipod touch from a guy at work. All I know is that it is 8gb's. I don't know what generation it is.

I have itunes 1.1.5(with software update). I was trying to get some of the free applications that I got to work on it. I have put songs on there. I have had an ipod nano in the past. I was just wondering if I needed to buy the "newest" version for $4.95 from itunes?

I click on the "applications" section in my itunes. Hold down shift to highlight all of them. Just can't figure out how to sync them.

ANY ADVICE!!!

No you don't need to purchase the newest firmware from apple, its not necessary just updated it to the newest free firmware which is 3 I believe. The apps should auto add if not, click the ipod from the side bar and select the applications tab and check whether or not its set to sync all apps.

all i know is i played the original wolfenstein on my cousins iphone - it was amazing

i just got the 3rd gen ipod touch for x-mas. u dont need to get the latest firmware 4 the ipod touch, unless u really want it. you just need to make sure that itunes is at the latest version. connect the cable to your ipod touch & ur golden. create an account in the itunes store & from there, you can search for apps. ive already downloaded a few free fun game apps.

If you have a library that is all applications, plug your ipod touch in, and under devices it should say "Your Ipod Touch", or w/e you named it. For me it says "StrongBad36x's Ipod"
so all you have to do is drag the applications thing to your device. It should automatically start syncing.

If the back is flat on the ipod its a first generation ipod touch. if the back is curvy its a 2nd or 3rd generation ipod touch, which are virtually identical.
And yeah you will need to get the newest firmware in order for everything to work.

You wrote you are on iTunes 1.1.5

Nothing will work with that. First, download the latest iTunes program.
Then plug in the new iPod touch.
On the main screen of your iPod touch (in iTunes) there will be a checkbox near the bottom that is not checked by default - it says "Manually manage Library" (or something like that).
Check that, and you will be able to drag stuff from your itunes library (including apps that are stored there) to your iPod touch.

Remember - apps that are designed for other iPods generally don't work with iPod Touches or iPhones. Very different interfaces.

Also some apps will require the latest firmware for your device.

Good luck and happy listening!

Good call on the software version!:)

If your iPod is 8gb, then it's either the 2nd or 1st gen one. (3rd gen 8gb is the exact same as 2nd gen 8gb)
If it's more square with a matte black bezel on the front then it's 1st gen.
If it's curvier and has chrome all wrapped all from the back to front then its the newer 2nd/3rd gen iPod.

For most new apps, you're going to have to update your firmware to 3.0. You can check the version # either on the iPod: Settings>General>About>Version
or on iTunes(after updating iTunes): Plug in>iTunes>Devices>Your iPod>Summary(the first tab)
