Ive been sitting around wondering if i need a new system (which i cant afford atm) then i realised a new graphics card may be all i need. so i need some suggestions. nvidia? ati?

here are my system specs:

Q9400 2.66ghz
4gig DDR2 ram
550W power supply
nvidia 9500gt
gigabyte GA-G31M-S2L motherboard

Western Digital Green Power 1TB WD10EADS Caviar
And a samsung 640gig both are SATA

this is what im currently considering but in not sure really. DX11 would be great but is it really going to play any better then what i have...?

Im running win 7 atm but i'll have to go back to XP soon.

dx11 will only be useful if you are running Win7 (maybe vista too I don't remember)

You're specs are *okay*. You could get away with just upgrading the graphics to something a little newer

You didn't list what kind of hard drives you are using but I'm going to assume it's SATA 7400rpm? If you are still using IDE/PATA you are probably choking from read/write delays.

I'm looking into doing the same thing...the consensus seems to be leaning towards a GeForce GTX 260.

Fixed.

I have a XFX GTX260, runs like a charm.

depends how many amps on the 12v rail that PSU has. if its a decent name brand you may have enough for a 5000 series ati card or whatever. but i'd say unless you want to upgrade PSUs right now also, get the best card your psu can support

I agree with bonefrag on this one. Although I did just buy the Radeon HD 4750 and it runs like a champ I am always about 80 FPS so I cannot complain.

80 FPS?

Haha, I have a Radeon HD 4650 and I run at 120 FPS.

That's odd.

thanks for the input guys. still have no idea what im going to get but you've given me some ideas. time to do some more research!

edit** i really need a new card! been playing the beta for BFBC for an hour or so and my current one is boiling hot. its never been that hot!
