Sins of A Solar Empire FPS Issues

I'm having a weird problem when I'm playing Sins of a Solar Empire - if I play for a certain amount of time (an hour or two, maybe?) my fps suddenly drops from 60 to 15; this also happens when I try to load a save. I've tried defragging, uninstalling and reinstalling, lowering my resolution (saw that somewhere ) but nothing is helping. I'm using the Entrechment expansion, and it's happening on both the original game and expansion.

- Windows 7
- 4096MB RAM
- ATI Radeon 4800
- AMD Phenom 2 x3 720 processor

Keep in mind I'm not the most tech savvy person out there

shouldn't really have a problem with those specs. So its not your hardware.

did you try reinstalling vid card drivers?

Yep, that was one of the first things I did.

have you been checking temps? your videocard may be overheating. Other than that i dont know?

Well, the thing is is it's also happening with saved games; if I save a game and go back to it, say, tomorrow, I get 15 fps in that saved game.
