Arrakis here and I'm building a whole new system because using my mac (i dare say) for my gaming system is a bit terribad :(. I mean it can run all the current games i have at high almost very high but its lacking in power in the video card a nVidia Geforce 9400M 256MB. So I plan on building my own gaming rig which should last a good 2-5 years.
I already have the system set except for the video card and I'm debating between:
nVidia Geforce 260GTX 512MB
HD Radeon 4670 512MB
or
S3 Chrome 540GTX 256MB

Any help would be amazing!
Thanks,

Arrakis

Huh?
The options you picked are so far in performance and price, and I haven't even heard of that last one.
What is the rest of the build, and what is your budget?

Specs:
AMD Phenom II 965 - 3.4 ghz
4 Gigs DDR3 1800+
1 TB
and im debating win7 or winxp

price limit for whole rig is 800-1000 depending on if i save :D .

and what did you mean far in performance? and yes the last vid card was recommended by a friend

The Chrome, is integrated with VIA CPU's IIRC. DO NOT GET IT!!!!!.

What is your budget for this card, after we know that we can assist you better.

Also, what PSU do you have?

Do you have PCIe slots?

EDIT:

if you psu can take it, i would suggest an ATi Radeon 5770

There is no debating. Windows 7 is much better.
Well, lets see, the 4670 is pretty weak for more demanding games, and a GTX 260 ~ HD 4850 IIRC, and a 4850 > 4670

EDIT: Yes, your PSU is very important.
A budget would be nice, too.

ahh ok integrated no bueno
PSU 850

As for budget I'm dedicating 200 -250

silly me haha PSU = Corsair CMPSU-850TX 850w Power Supply
don't blame me for not knowing my friend its building it and suggested it. I'm just buying the parts

That is a great PSU, you should be able to run any card you want on that.

any ways, like i said, a 5830 would be a good choice

If you dont mind waiting a few weeks, im sure that the 5830 will come down some $. Its MSRP is only $230, and right now they are selling for $250, so if you wait they might drift closer or below the MSRP.

But if you dont want to wait, its only 20$
