Whats the best browser?

I currently use FireFox and Chrome, mostly FF. I'd use Chrome all the time if they get more themes, a "Recently closed windows/tabs" menu, and the ability to bookmark RSS feeds built in.

i think is goes a bit like this.

firefox is by the far the best for features. it has many themes, addons, and user friendly. it also slows down sometimes for no reason, even only if you have like 1 or 2 tabs open, this problem has happened to many people.

opera is just as good as firefox, but i think is more stable. you can have more tabs open before it starts to slow down. but it does not has as many features as firefox. its kind of like the opposite of firefox, faster browser but less features such as themes and addons.

chorme, last i have heard, its last updated was like 2 years ago. do not take my word for it, i just started to use it. but it does has less features then both firefox and opera. but in my opinion, it is faster and more stable then the other 2.

i use all 3 and honestly, with the new quad core computer, i can say now that all 3 have their ups and downs. i use firefox for all my emails, buying, and also light browsing.

i use opera for the heavier browsing, reading, videos and such.

chrome is about the same with opera.

it really depends on what the user like, i prefer firefox because of all the themes and also tweaks to make it a bit faster :3

I will use anything but safari

But in my personal experience IE 8 and Chrome have been the best.

I'm really getting tired of Internet Explorer 7 and I want your opinion on what internet browser do you use, and what would you recommend.

yeh IE 7 is complete garbage, upgrade to 8 ASAP if nothing else instead.

Opera actually beats Firefox in terms of speed and security. However, the plug-ins for Firefox mean it's my primary, followed by Opera for basic tasks.

yeh its a crying shame that opera is hardly as compatible or as bug-free as chrome, firefox, IE, etc...

Actually, chrome used to be full of bugs, but not anymore.

Chrome by far,

chorme, last i have heard, its last updated was like 2 years ago.
They update daily, they just dont tell you the update it and it does it in the background, you can find the notes on their website or like www.lifehacker.com .

But chrome is the best IMO. It's simple, does everything you want it fast, puts each tab in a seperate process, and does what a browser should do, aka browse the internet. Also has adblockers and multiple extensions you can use. I couldn't live without it

Chrome. Super fast and super secure http://www.independent.co.uk/life-style/gadgets-and-tech/news/chrome-beats-the-hackers-in-annual-browser-bash-1652213.html
They also have a boat load of extensions now, one of which is an open in ie tab that creates a ie window inside chrome so if something doesn't work for me I just use that.

Don't blindly trust this results. The reason Chrome hasn't been hacked is quite simple:
Nobody tried (during the contest)!
Each contestant focussed on a browser of his choice. In addition, almost nobody tells how much time they put into the hack before the contest (e.g. one used an undisclosed vulnerability he discovered a few month ago).
I only looked up german sources (like heise.de), but I'm sure you'll also find them in your language of choice, if you want to investigate...
Let's see what this years contest (end of March) turns up.

Baseline:
Every browser has its security holes, new hacking-techniques are constantly developed, know holes are constantly patched...
As long as you are using the latest version, all browsers are almost equally safe/unsafe.

So, what it comes down to, is basically just personal preferences ...

A lot of "best browser" comes down to the things that you like to do. If you spend a lot of time browsing sites that aren't quite reputable, maybe you're looking for more security, or if you just read the news or just use the web to read eGO forums, then you're looking for something fast and not too intensive. Different browsers are good for different things, but here's a general rundown.

Security

Security wise, it matters more what OS you're running. If you've got Windows 7, then the current order of security on major browsers goes,

Chrome
Internet Explorer 8
Firefox
Safari

With the new version of Windows, Chrome and IE8 have taken advantage of sandboxing security features that are not available on Firefox or Safari right now.

Opera is a bit more of a unique case with it's "mac syndrome" in that it has such a tiny market share that no one really writes browser specific viruses to exploit it's system, although it has had vulnerability issues in the past.

Performance
Performance wise, it depends a lot on what you do. Each of the browsers tend to have a wide range of what websites they load the fastest. Browser ranking is a very murky process as there are a ton of sites out there that provide less than reliable information.

For resource usage, overall, Chrome leads on single page browsing while Opera ranks last, while on multi-page browsing Firefox leads while Chrome and Opera do poorly.

Overall, Chrome and Opera tend to come out ahead in rankings for performance, while Firefox and Opera tend to come out ahead in customization. Chrome is decently customizable but suffers from being too new to have a lot of the same functionality that already exists in Firefox, while Opera ranks high, but suffers from compatability problems because of it's tiny market share.

Good informative Post, Ratfire!
I've completely missed to mention that my 'baseline' is only true for a Win XP machine.
