If you had a PC like this;

Phenom II X3 720 @ 3.3Ghz
2GB DDR2 800
Windows 7 x64
ATI Radeon HD 3850 512MB
Dell 19 Inch fat monitor (1280x1024) resolution.

Play games;
Valve Games
Bad Company 2
Any interesting singleplayer games (ME2/Dragon Age/Portal 2/Crysis 2)

Would you get;

A - Either a 5770 1GB 128 Bit GDDR5 or 4870 1GB 256 Bit GDDR5
B - A 1050 or 1080p monitor

This is pretty much the situation I'm in. I don't know what to do, Get a cool monitor and probably lose a lot of performance and MAYBE make games unplayable for me due to the higher resolution or get a new GPU and play everything on full settings with no low frame dips on 1280x1024 monitor? Portal2/Crysis 2 are probably the only games I'll buy this year. Unless some really awesome ones surface.

GPU first, then monitor. There's nothing worse than having a HD monitor that you can't fully utilize because your current video card isn't cutting it.

I have an HD monitor that I can't fully utilize yet. :'(
But, yes, get the GPU first. Our graphics cards are about the same, and I have an HD monitor, but I would almost rather of gotten a new GPU. But I'm getting one next month, so I can wait.

go for the GPU. how much you able to spend?

Not sure at the moment, at least $140 though.

I guess it's pretty obvious I should get the GPU. 'll try and save up to get at least a 4870.

Thanks everyone!
