The idea of an electric car with a removable battery has hovered for some time, without having been implemented yet. But now Renault unveiled the final version of two electric cars, the ZE Fluence Z.E. sedan and Kangoo van, which will be available in 2011 and may change their batteries.
The Fluence Z.E. be the first production and participate in the project Better Place, which takes place in Israel where you want to install a full fleet of electric cars at low prices, following a business model that aims to make money charging for reloads of electricity.
Yet changing the battery is not an easy task (you can not change it if you get thrown on the road): take the car requires a battery replacement center, where the replacement takes only 3 minutes and you can let the other battery recharging instead of having to leave the car plugged in waiting.
Fluence Renault expects to sell 100,000 in Denmark and Israel by 2016. Cars can be booked from now on the site of the company.
Both the Kangoo and the Fluence will be limited to 130 km / h, and although it is electric cars, Renault has not given them a futuristic look, but closely resemble common gasoline cars.
