Officially, the ICQ messaging service was sold to the Russian investment group Digital Sky Technologies (DST) for U.S. $ 187.5 million, in another sign of the situation of America Online by selling off a few products listed.

The first week of April we said that AOL had released to ICQ, a product that was purchased at U.S. $ 400 million and accounted for, this could lead to trading at about U.S. $ 300 million. It seems that the predictions were not very encouraging, because it failed to cover even 50% of what originally was paid in 1998.

Details were known that the Russian investor was interested in DST ICQ December 2009. The reason would be the substantial base of users in that country still has a courier service.

In November 2009, when it began broadcasting the news that could be sold ICQ, companies such as Napster, Google and Skype have shown interest in acquiring. Perhaps the cost and the high level of competitors (why that would slow the immediate return) did decline to these vendors.

DST Group is a leading global investor in technology-related companies. Zinga bought recently, has financed the operation of Astrum Online Mail.ru and in May 2009 and bought shares in Facebook for $ s 200 billion.
