So my dad got a free windows 7 64 bit ultimate disk from work. Whenever I try to install it, it comes up with an error message that says something along the lines of...

"This installation disk isn't compatible with your version of windows. To upgrade, you need the correct installation disk. For more information check your computer's system information. To install a new copy of Windows, restart (boot) your computer using the installation disk, and then select Custom (advanced)."

Does anyone know why it comes up with this?

Currently I'm using:
Vista 32 bit Home Premium.

Thanks.

are you trying to upgrade or do a fresh install? I'd never recommend doing an upgrade.. You always wanna back up your data, format then do a full clean install.

Vista(or anything else for that matter) 32bit will not work with Windows 7 64 bit as you hit "Upgrade".

2 different architectures.

To install that, you would have to back up your data manually then run from the CD and select custom.

However, if it was a Windows 7 32 bit, you could do "Upgrade", but here you can not.

I dont even have the option to pick upgrade or clean install, it just comes up with that.

Add me to STEAM, it'll be a lot quicker and easier instead of using the forums.

are yiu sticking the disk in while vista is running or are you booting of the install disk.

you have to boot the computer off the install disk select freash install and wipe a harddrive or partitions for it to go on.
