Well, starting a week ago during a storm (idk if this is relevant) my internet started losing connection once and a while and today I can't connect at all. Here is the run down: My internet provider is Verizon, I have a Westell Ethernet Modem which is where the internet comes from. Connected to this modem is a Linksys Ethernet Wireless router which provides internet to our laptops and ps3 etc. Over the years whenever the internet decided to stop working I would usually flick the modem/router power switches, unplug n replug the wires, all that jazz. It usually worked after that, or I would just have to wait it out for a little. In short, I was the problem was easily resolved because there was no hidden major technical problem. Now here is my dilemma: I can connect to the network, it shows im connected to Linksys, however it says it doesnt have internet access. The reason I am able to be on here now typing this is because I can setup a dial up connection to the modem, which only gives internet to my one laptop. This also stumps me because I am not sure where the problem lies. The fact that I am able to get internet at all must mean something, but I cant figure out why my linksys network says I dont have access to it. Basically, I cant tell if the problem is coming from the modem, the router, or some outside factor having to do with Verizon and one of their boxes or whatever. I have looked at my linksys setup with the IP address and I really can't find anything wrong with it. On one hand I think the router is perfectly fine and the problem is with the modem, however, seeing as I can get a dial up connection to it and have at least some internet says otherwise. I'm stumped. Here is what my ipconfig /all looks like:

I suppose the answer is somewhere in there, but I have no idea what it is. Thanks for whatever help you guys can provide.

To diagnose whether it is the router and or modem, disconnect the router and plug in directly to the modem. Tell us what happens and we go from there.

Probably not even a couple weeks ago, i thought my DIR 655 was done as it would do the same exact thing- show a connection but have limited access. Grabbed a pen and hit the reset pin sized reset button in the back of the router. Fixed.

Hi! When I plug directly into the modem nothing really changes, except that I also lose my dial-up connection as well. It seems I need the router and modem still hooked up to get the dial-up. Here is a picture of things so I can summarize:
29cwbvs.jpg

The left window just shows everything as it is hooked up. Linksys is my normal network(the modem/router combo) that I use everyday for internet. As you can see it says no internet access. Verizon is the dial up connection, which is what is giving me the internet temporarily for my laptop. Now the unidentified network is the network that comes up when I plug directly into the modem. The right window shows the connections again. Verizon is the dial up connection. The wireless network connection, aka linksys my normal internet connection, is the one in the left window that is saying no internet access. I'm sure it isn't a problem specific to my laptop's wireless card because all the drivers are correct and the internet loss isn't just for my laptop, it is for my brothers, my iTouch, and ps3 as well. Basically we have no wifi. Finally the local area connection is the one that is a result of me plugging directly into the modem. As you can see it says it is a unidentified network and isn't really helping my cause. I should note that when I am not plugged into the modem and the router and modem are hooked up like normal, the local area connection has an X next to it and says unplugged cable. When I troubleshoot the local area connection as I am plugged into my modem it says local area connection doesnt have a valid IP configuration. Not sure if that is a factor. To summarize all this: I've tried a lot of different combinations of resetting, turning off, unplugging, as well as changing settings on my laptop, but to no avail.

Can you ping yahoo.com?
Can you ping other computers on your network?
Who is your ISP? Maybe they can release the connection to your house then reset it.

I don't see any DNS servers on your wireless eth. It's pointing at your gateway.

Can ping both. Verizon is my ISP. I contacted them they advised swapping the ends of the DSL cables..didnt do anything, they also said my line is fine. Gah so lost.

UPDATE: After much tinkering I finally got all wifi to work and i THINK this was the solution: Remember that dial up connection i was able to get? That was using a PPPoE I believe, which required me to enter username and passsword provided by verizon. I was messing with my linksys router and went back on the site for it (the default IP) and changed from automatic configuration-DHCP, to PPPoE. I then entered the username and password and bam, router shot internet all over my house restoring wifi. Hopefully it lasts. I guess my new question is: will there be a difference? I'm pretty sure its always been auto config and now it will be PPPoE as long as this causes it to work, so will ANYTHING change that i should be concerned about?
