Hey guys I would like to inform you I will be playing tf2 more often now that it loads faster. I have a few questions, however:

1. How do I get hats and misc. items?
2. I'm not good at any class, which one is good for begginers like me?
3. I went to blackmesa and it said I was missing the map, I want to my computer, program files, yada yada, the maps, but I couldn't fond any maps. Halp!!!

I hope to see you guys :)

For the first question, you find hats and misc items either by crafting or random drops. Some hats and misc items can't be obtained normally and have expired by now.

The second question, I'd go with the Pyro. It's basic and easy to get used to.

The third, you could ask Dragonhill for the map since he made it.

In terms of hats and misc, as was said above, they'll come with time. if you don't have all of the class weapons, however, they'll also come through random drops, OR, you can complete the achievements of the various classes to get a guaranteed copy of each of their unlockable weapons (with a few notable exceptions, namely the soldier's gunboats and all community weapons, which can be crafted using the other, regular weapons).

As for starting class, it comes down to what your previous game playing experience is. I see you're from CS:S, so you might find some comfort with the sniper. It's a nice and easy concept to get behind in the beginning. However, as I said in the thread Quaffer recommended (which you should read) you should play medic. As a medic, you have to pair up with people to be the most successful you can be; this means that you'll always have a heavy, soldier, pyro or demo kicking around to observe.

As for what NOT to start with: spy. The spy, I don't find, anyhow, is really a beginner's class. The difference between a good spy and a bad spy are extremely obvious.

However, what you should really do is stop listening to all that advice for now, and just play the game. After you get a better sense for what you're doing, then you can seek out the class guides and the community asking for tips on x class.

As for maps, you might be able to download it from fpsbanana.com. However, I would recommend not starting on mesa; a lot of really good players play there, and even more than good players, there are players who really know how to exploit the map (in a good, non-malicious way) and will hand you your butt if you don't know what you're doing. What I would suggest is going to insta-respawn 2fort. it's often full, great opportunity to snipe, and there will always be a good mix of veterans AND people who are much worse than you. That's where I learned to play back in the day, and I heartily recommend it to any beginner.

You can add me on steam and we can talk, if you like, although I don't actually have steam at the moment what with my computer dying a little while ago. That's something I might just fix today though.

Thanks everyone :)

I have found myself playing soldier a lot, and I like to play on Egypt. So you'll see me on 2fort or Egypt!Quaffed I'm going to have to read the link, but thanks!(well I'm reading it right after this post lol)

So you like playing solly huh, its a good start but you will see a huge difference and make sure you take note on that huge difference between a beginner soldier and a veteran soldier. I would suggest spectating a soldier who is on the top 3 of the board and see how he plays and try and practice what he was doing. Also when playing any class, dont just use the primary weapon learn when you need to switch to your melee and secondary weapon it can save your life when reloading your weapon will end up killing you. Just some food for thought and ill be sure to kill you on the server some time ;).

Welcome to the best division ever!

I would start off with engi/pyro but i dove straight into spy since i love that type of stuff! :D

Umm, about the map, make sure in your settings you allow custom content to be downloaded. Also, try connecting to the server a few times, it can help.

lol actually i find getting my ass handed to me by people that are better than me makes me a better player because eventually i learn the way they play and eventually i interpret there play style as well as develop a play style that completely counter attacks theirs and in time i become better than them XD

Thanks everyone :)

I actualled played all classe in a time period, and now
my opinions have changed xD

Heavy for the rushez
Spy for me getting killed (what else is it for?)
Scout for me to mess around
Demoman for defence, and A LOT of kills
Medic for being a good person (I find it quite fun actually)
Pyro for close combat (Duh)
Sniper for uhhhhhh getting kills I guess, it's a OK class. I'm no use to that kind of sniper.
Soldier for hitting enemy groups from afar.

Just my outtake on the classes, don't hate!
