Computer can't handle CSS anymore. Recommendations on video settings and computers?

So I've been playing css forever but now my computer can't handle the new update. Is there anything I can do short of putting every video setting on the lowest (I put almost all of them on low but its still sluggish)

Are there any new drivers or programs I need to run the new CSS?

Also what is a good gaming laptop which I can buy for cheap and run the new CSS on?

Edit: Under $1000 preferably closer to $500
 
this would be better for the Tech talk/help center, but perhaps if you post your computer specs and what not here, im sure some people could help you out
 
have you tried lowering your dx level mat_Dxlevel 81 or -dxlevel 81 in your launch optiosn

Agree's with Soul here.

Cant help much with what type on laptop should you buy, but if you got a nice graphics card should do the trick
 
There are video cards less than $100 that can easily run the Orange Box engine on medium. However, if your computer is old enough you may have to upgrade more than your video card.
 
my $50 video card that I bought almost a year ago runs all OB games on highest. Although I have a desktop, not a laptop.
 
I'm not sure if the freeze frame when you die causes any performance issues or not, but try disabling it. (I disabled it on my computer because I think it's stupid lol)

Options => Multiplayer => Advanced Settings => disable death freeze frame (or something like that)

I don't know what else to tell you. Other than the minor annoyance I listed above my performance has remained the same at approx 250-299fps (everything on max settings/resolution)



List your computer or laptops specs and what not and we will try to help you out! Without knowing what you're working with we won't be able to help much.
 
Well. That stinks. Maybe get a new graphics card to update your computer for the new CS:S. That or you might have to get a new computer.
 
Before buying anything, what are your computer specs?

Don't buy anything yet. Until CS:S finishes their update to finish the crap job they did. Because I'm taking it your probably getting stuttering and what not and its not from lag or fps issues, like I am, and that doesn't mean you need to get a new graphics card or whatever. We just have to wait for stupid CS:S to update more, because obviously, even if they know about problems in the beta, they still like to throw out the update without fixing it causing grief for all players.
