Frys has a decent selection of items on sale this weekend. 2 of them happen to be Hitachi's 2TB hard drive for $108. That is the correct price that they advertised. Can anyone confirm that their hard drives are good @ all? Should I wait for Seagate or WD to come down in price? All feedback is greatly appreciated. Also Kingston memory is chopped down as well. Frys is selling 4gb (2x2gb) for $80. The memory is PC 6400, which is the same bus speed as my memory. I know I already have 4gb, so any suggestion on the memory?

Well go read the reviews on Newegg. From what i know about Hitachi drives i would stay away from them.

I have a Hitachi 1TB drive. Been running fine for almost a year now.

Most people prefer WD/Samsung/Seagate to hitachi though.

I would stay away from 2 TB HDDs for the time being. They're new and probably have their kinks to work out.

i wouldn't trust hitachi hard drives i find they tend to cost more and usually are of less quality than western digital

the only hard drive brand I trust less than hitachi is maxtor. doesnt get much worse than that.

i wouldnt trust hitachi or trust 2tb worth of data too a single drive.

in my line of work if i lost an album's worth of sessions it would cost me thosands.

I was about to say that.
2TB is a lot to trust on one drive. If you need 2TB, then get 4x500GB in a RAID config, or 2x1TB also in a RAID config.

all of my drives that i use for work are 500gb 10,000rpm drives in a raid and I got a few external 10,000rpm drives that are between 250gb and 500gb that all run from firewire 800.

my work chews up a lot of storage but i also need very fast read and write speeds since im reading and writing pretty big audio files to them in real time.

I used a Hitachi when I built my friends computer, it's only a 500gb though. It's lasted about 6 months so far.
