The rifleman sleeps now that the war is done
The cocking handle left open on his gun
No more bullets, triggers and muzzle flash
All those days spent killing are now left in the past
The rifleman sleeps deep down in the ground
Warm in the embrace of mother nature's bound
She kisses him softly on the head
Says don't worry about pain because you're already dead
Some wake up to the clear blue skies
Others never have the chance to open their eyes
The epitaph reads, 'Don't cry for me'
I knew what I was doing and you're still free
I did my duty and protected you from harm
Adorn my grave with flowers and get back in your car
And remember...
Some wake up to the clear blue skies
Others never have the chance to open their eyes
