Vent

Hey guys, yesterday I made my Vent user, and I tried it out and all was good. I tried to connect to the server today, and it came up with this message:

Connected to server but unable to authenticate your login name and password. Make sure you entered the correct global server password or the password for your unique login name. You will be automatically banned if you try connecting with the wrong password several more times, so be sure you have the correct password before you try again. Passwords are case sensitive and must be completely retyped if you are making a change to it. The password will always be displayed as 8 (*'s or dots) even if the actual length of the password is shorter or longer then 8. You should also verify that you entered the correct IP address (or hostname) and Port number. If the port number is wrong you are connecting to the wrong server.


I really dont know what I did wrong and I think I've checked it all over and it seems fine. I never changed anything, and its making this message. Any ideas?

re type your login name, retype your password and double make sure that you change the radius from anonymous to user

This may sound like a foolishly simple solution, but I work in a computer lab (in college)... and sometimes the simplest solution is the one that works. Is your Fire Wall allowing access? Do you have something like Norton Internet Security on? Or is your Router/modem the issue?

Also, I am unsure what game you are using, but can you Ping the server? I would assume some games can and can not, so I am unsure which you are playing.

oh my heck man. You are all over the place lately here. He isnt talking about a game he is talking about vent. The fact that he has already been connected to the server indicates that he has in the past already gotten through the firewall. And he can clearly ping the server if he can recieve erro messages from it.

What exactly do you do in this computer lab - at my college they only make sure people dont eat and help if they dont know how to use the printer.

Yes, true indeed. I thought though it was saying he could connect to the game, and it could read the server, but he could not grant access to it.

Well since the instructions apparently of retrying didn't help, so I am a tad unsure.

Do you think something could be causing a conflict, hence restricting him to log in? If that is the definite case, we may be able to get down to it...

At our computer lab, we basically study computers, Bio's commands, how to solve, prevent and locate problems, how to read motherboard distress (the beeps when it is telling you something is wrong), etc.

sounds more like the computer repair place on campus rather than a computer lab for student acess.

And no by all means continue to post - i'm not the boss of you, its just that for liek 20 minutes ive responded to like 50 of your posts, i think we are glued together.

Well it is a class, more over then an area of computers.
Heh, I don't mind, I like learning from you. I've laerned your the Technical genius around here; I'm still a novice after all. Though from what I learned from Highschool and my Father, I've hoped to help others as well.

With the third statement, I don't fully understand. Though thankyou, it is my favorite avatar

But I like your avatar.

I dont mind it when people dont know things, and i like ot help people and i would love to share my knowledge with others especially those who want to be able ot help others in a better capacity someday. I just have this pet peave against people who pretend ot know answers but really have no clue.

Just be carefull that if your not sure in an answer that you say so - because if you dont then it sounds as if that is the answer and it often just wastes time or ever bad advice can cause harm. Plus it gets you on my bad side. I'm easy to get along with just dont make duplicate threads, and dont vista bash for no reason and things will work out.

In the mean time, you may have to just log in as anonymous and then recreate your user information or somehting. Maybe ask someone on vent once loged in an anonymous or what not.
