"Connection failed after four tries" message

basically, when ever i start TF2 and look for servers, the list remains unpopulated. and when i try to IP connect, or connect using the Steam servers list, i get two bars through the little bar thingy, then my game says "Connection failed after four tries." I have been into my firewall and allowed all HL2.exe's unfettered access ot the internet, and I have tried reinstalling the game twice now, to no avail. Can anyone give me a hand here?

Are you still getting this error? The day you posted htis i believe was the day the servers we being shut down.

i am still getting this problem, and it has been consistent since my installation of the game, so i doubt it has anything to do with server downtime. thanks for the help though.
