needs help!

DESCRIPTION OF PROBLEM:
I have no clue whats wrong,I try to play any of my steam games and it works up until its trying to load the server data then the whole thing freezes.

WHEN / HOW OFTEN DOES THE PROBLEM OCCURE:
everytime

i got a new hard drive to fix a problem then it stopped working
LAST TIME COMPUTER WORKED FINE:
about a month or teo ago

none
THINGS YOU HAVE ALREADY TRIED TO FIX PROBLEM:
wipeing computer and reload everything,reload steam

Anyways - its been a while since i played, what you are saying is that you can open the games fine, search for server fine, and then attempt to connect - but durring the connection process where it downloads client data and syncs with the server it freezes. Is that correct? How do you know it is frozen, can you leave it for 10 minutes and it's in the same place? Is the game frozen, or is your entire computer frozen? (as in, can you ctrl alt del out of the screen or must you turn the power off?).

Is this problem all of a sudden since you put in a new hard drive or is this your first time playing steam games on this computer?

Is the new hard drive an addon, or a replacement, as in, is the new drive your D drive now, or did your old one die so you had to reinstall windows on the new drive?

hey I just read stuff before I do something.

well it dosent just freeze it also makes the loading window split all over the screen.

my old hard drive died so I got a new one and reloaded everything onto it,it worked fine then it suddenly just stop working.I can play Battlefield 2 and most of my other games.
are there some updated that i missed out on or something?


I have to completly restart my computer and there are no pop ups that say anything

You cannot even ctrl alt del?

All of a sudden huh? You are absolutely sure you didnt do somehting just before it started? not even windows update or anything? I guess the only thing I can suggest then would be to delete and reinstall steam, redownload the games......

UNLESS, you should first check your firwall settings, if windows update had run and you got the latest version from the update (since you reinstalled) sometimes that resets your permissions and the game may not be getting through thus getting blocked? Just an idea, you could check it.

No i made sure it was an exception

ill try a complete reinstall.so there hasnt been any updates or patches for steam,CSS,gmod,or DOD?

since when? I dont think theres been any updates to steam or dods in weeks.

well its been out for about 3-4 months I just never bothed to try and fix it because I had other games but those are startign to get boreing and I probaly suck now but oh well.
