I have just finished designing a spray in the paint application on my computer. I have sized it at 256 x 256, but now I am unsure as to how I need to import it to my game so I can use it. Please help me out. Thanks.

Just save the image as a .jpg. Once you are done, go to the multiplayer tab of your options. Then you see a little box, to the right of it is select spray. There should be an import spray button, click that, and browse to where you saved your image. Select it and test it out in-game!

Or, you could,

  1. Save the image as .png, as this format usually gets you better quality.
  2. Download VTFedit
  3. Open VTFedit, click File -> Import and select your .png image from there.
  4. Click Options -> Auto Create VMT File (not that much of a need, just a good thing to learn to do)
  5. Click File -> Save As and locate this directory
    C:\Program Files\Steam\steamapps\YOURSTEAMNAME\team fortress 2\tf\materials\vgui\logos
  6. Make sure to replace 'YOURSTEAMNAME' with your actual steam name.
  7. Go to tf2, click the Multiplayer tab and the image should be there under whatever you saved it as :D

If it isn't, which is unlikely if you followed this through correctly, feel free to PM me with questions, or any other method as you see fit :)

I just tried it the way activate told me to and it says that my image file is corrupt. I will try the other way now. If you have a solution to this problem I will listen to that as well.

I believe saying it as a .jpg only works for CSS. It has never worked for me in TF2 so I have had to save it as a .tga file or convert it to .vtf using VTFedit.

I'm confident that my way of handling this issue works.
If you run into a problem, double-check that you placed it correctly and followed all of my instructions.

Also, you have to select and apply the spray in your multilayer tab before joining a server :)
