Times Square Screen Hack Turns Out to be a Hoax

Earlier this week, a viral video started spreading online showing two men in Times Square claiming to hack its large electronic screens using only an iPhone, a weather balloon, a transmitter, and ?video repeater.?? According to The Village Voice, who made the early prediction that the whole thing was a hoax, it turned out that the video was?a hoax.
It seems that the video was merely a viral advertisement for the movie Limitless, created by a viral marketing firm called ThinkModo.
When approached by the film?s producers to come up with a viral idea, ThinkModo decided on Times Square, but rather than resort to CGI or post-production editing, they pulled off the fake hack by actually using real ads on the Times Square screens, doing a real ad spend to rent them.
ThinkModo says to Village Voice, ?Instead of some crazy CGI, we actually went to the screens and paid to play our own stuff on them. They just synced what was playing on the iPhone to what was really on the screen.?
