I have been out everyday since the storms first hit on Wednesday. We spent the first two days doing search and rescue and now we have switched our focus to sustainability. While we were out passing out food and water to the victims, i couldnt help but cry at all the lives lost/ruined, families homeless, children with no parents. I have seen devastation before when i helped after a tornado outbreak back in 1994, but this hit home. I walked up to a house in a subdivision that was hit by an F4 tornado. I gazed upon the foundation of which the home stood and all I could see was carpet and plywood. The home-owner came over and told me of his story and how him and his family survived not one, not two, but three tornados that hit the same area over and over again. When the first one hit, he grabbed his wife and two kids and headed into the bathroom in the center of the house. The first tornado hit his home and destroyed the entire left side (his kitchen, living room, garage, dining room). He then told his family to get into the bathtub when he discovered a second tornado was heading his way. The second one hit and destroyed the rest of his house and trapped his family in the bathroom tub. While they were pinned under the ruble of his home, the final F4 tornado hit the same subdivision ripping the tub him and his family were in away and throwing them over 200 yrds from their home. The home-owner then told me him and his family waited inside the tub until he heard the words "Fire Department, Is everyone ok." They climbed out of the tub and headed over to the fire fighter who was conducting a house to house search. He told the fire fighter what happened and explained that his family was ok.
This is just one of the many miraculous stories of how people survived that day. I ask that you keep everyone who was involved in this incident in your prayers and in your hearts.
