Ok consider a few things first.... been on a laptop (Turion 64, ati x200, 768 ram) and lately amd 2600, 1 gb ram, geforce mx4000 (dx7). Spent less than $400 for
New mb fsb supports new cpu
amd 5600
2gb ram 533 (I have the old stick of 1gb 400, should I put it in for 3gb?)
MSI 8600Gt 512 ddr3 128bit
650w ps
 
I think the 8600GTs are ewwy.

Now the 9600GTs I'm waiting to see some reviews on those. I'm sure there already are some I just haven't gotten around to checking yet.
 
the GeForce 9600 is at the power between the Radeon 3850 and 3870 and the price amazingly, omg be shocked now! In between the Radeon 3850 and 3870, they're actually pricing it properly zomg!... and low! omg! lower then $200 :O for a Card that's mid-high range :O
 
I had an extremely limited budget. Going from the 9700 pro 128mb to a 8600gt 512mb ddr3, should help.

I am getting the mb today and the ram is comming soon or today. I have 1gb 400mhz ram I was thinking of using just to get the machine up and running tonight, then when I get the rest of the ram putting the 533 mhz in slots 1 & 2 and the 400 mhz in slot 3. Does that sound ok or use a usb flash drive (2gb, 1gb+ free) as additional memory or using the 400mhz and the usb or niether...
 
Well, is the 400Mhz DDR2? If not, don't put it in there if it's a DDR2 motherboard. If you want to run the 2x 533Mhz sticks in dual channel, adding a third stick would cause most motherboards to actually LOSE system performance and stability (check your motherboard's manual and make sure). Another thing, if your motherboard manual says 3 sticks won't affect performance or stability, make sure you go into the BIOS and have all the RAM running at 400Mhz, and the proper timings. Just make sure everything matches the slowest stick.

It's probably not worth the trouble at all, and you should probably wait for everything to get there. An extra day isn't worth an extra headache. :D
 
It feels like Christmas..... the waiting is the hardest part....

how about just starting it up with the 1 gb 400mhz ddr2, with a 2gb flash drive then when the other ram gets here, replacing it with the two sticks.
 
Unless I can borrow a knife, I don't have ddr2 ram yet. That is the last component. I went ahead and built the machine sans ram. Its sitting on a 1990's mac. It all looks good so far.
