old computer + linux = fun

well i got this old computer from my gf dad and im going to be trying to reformat everything and going to add linux and im going to try to run a email server or a small website off it, has anyone else tried it? i do this stuff at work all the time and i think its fun to play around with...
i also have to contact my isp tomorrow to ask if i can hopefully get more bandwidth etc etc from them for a cheap price but i dout that is going to happen its about to cost a fortune to what i already pay :/
 
I'm in love with Ubuntu Server Edition. That's what I'd use, but everyone has different tastes. =o

What ISP are you using? I hope you're not stuck with one of the horribly-priced ones.
 
computer specs pentuim dual 2 gigs of ram 160 gig hd adding another 160 hdd to it, linux probably red hat or i forgot the name but we use at my work

and im using windstream right now for my isp so hopefully they will work things out with me
 
Fedora Core?

also I would suggest Ubuntu Server. Love it as well.


And a dual pent with 2gigs of ram is prob better then some of the peoples machines here

You could run anything you want.
Even game servers if you have bandwidth.
 
yeah this computer is also alot better than the servers we run on the local side of the network at my work :/
