Gaming PC in trouble!

I just dusted off my gaming PC, only to find that it does not work. It turned on (fans, LEDs) and appeared to be running normally except that it wasn't outputting anything to the monitor. I then tried powering it up with only the Mobo, CPU, and RAM and immediately heard a loud, high pitched, screeching sound coming from the PSU. Any thoughts?

Have you tried searching for solutions online yet? Maybe you should post in the newegg forums or some other big computer/tech site.

Brand and model please, as well as how long you have had it (that specific psu) and your other system specs.

Ya, once I get you system specs, I can look at the model of it. If it isnt a store bought computer and you assembled it yourself, i want to see the model of PSU itself. Chances are you need to buy a new PSU. Making a loud screeching noise is never good and I personall doubt it is anything besides a shorted wire or something physical. Either way post your specs and ill take a look.

I had been running this successfully for months before decommissioning it and recommissioning it a month later. It didn't make the screeching sound until I unplugged the video card, drives, and other non-essentials from the mobo. After trying to get video out of all 4 ports (2 on the mobo's rear I/O panel and 2 on the card itself), I was still unable to get any picture. Based on the fact that it would turn, but would not output anything, I have to assume that even if the power supply has failed in some way, the mother board or processor must also be bad.

And no, there were no recent power surges. The computer went straight from being used without a hitch to sitting in my closet for a month.

Alright, a screeching PSU cand be a cause of many things. For one, a hardware component could be overcurrenting and cause your PSU to overload. Also when a fan switches on it could be doing it. So what you can do is, unplugg all power lines to all unessential hardware so you can boot up in your os. IF it still occurs, switch out with another PSU that you know works. Do the same thing as before, and if the screeching still contintues then you might have an overcurrent problem with your MBO, or system disk. If the problem still occurs after that there is a possiblilty that one of your peices of hardware is having an overcurrent problem and just post again and i'll tell you how to check. The reason im telling you later instead of now is because it is more than likely your PSU so we'll see

If you didnt have it hooked up to a powerstrip there still could have been a surge that just affected the computer. Always keep surge protectors on them.

I agree but when this happend to my machine once i had to buy a brand new power supply it has to do somthing with the wattage of the supply running out.

are you getting power to you pci slots, i had a simmiler prblem once, and there was a little 4 pin plug on the mobo i for got to plug in, that powed my pci slots. so nothing was showing up on my monitor.

I swapped out PSUs and Mobos and still got nothing. I would say that it must be the graphics card except that it still didn't work even when the monitor was plugged in directly to the mobo (which had onboard video) which I guess means its either the processor or the memory.

I will take another look when I get home from work Reign, but I am 99.9% sure everything is properly connected.
