Uhhhh... so are you asking if that was a good upgrade? It also includes a digital camera, which is nice, I guess, if you needed one...

Ya gotta agree, im trying to figure out if thats what he already purchased or if it sounds good.

you bought a 2700k  why? could of gotten the 2500k, or if you wanted hyerthreading then the 2600k and saved money.

with that said Im confused by this post...

werd, 2700k is basically a 2600k with a higher clock speed

Yes this is what i purchased

2700k is more about quality more then a bump of 100mhz and a higher binned cpu.

All the sandy bridge chips are the same they are produced from the same Wafer the best chips are 2700k if they fail at certain points they get named 2600k if they can't hyper thread they are a 2500k if they can't overclock very well the lose the "K" and everything in between. i'm upgrading from an amd 965 that has a burnt core.

2700k was 10 dollars more then 2600k why not? haha

So you are going for max overclock I take it? You plan to do a lot of benching? If not, 2700k was really a waste. Hyperthreading makes little difference for most. This is why the 2500k is the most recommended chip. Not to say the 2700k is bad, its just more of a splurge that may be slightly more future proofed than a 2500k, but provides little benefit over a 2600k. 2600k overclocks like a champ too. Unless you plan to go for the maximum overclock, that $10 or $110 is unfortunately wasted.

also nuke what bus speed is the old memory just curious? do you plan to use your old stuff in a different system? also is it 4x1gb or 2x2?

Exactly and the 2700k is 10 bucks more then the 2600k so it isn't really splurging!

No u can't have my ram its going to another pc.

Haters going to hate omg you bought a 2700k WHAT A WASTE!

It is the better processor because it didn't fail over clocking and be called a 2600k it didn't fail hyper threading and be called a 2500k.
All these chips are the same wafer.. this is a big upgrade over my amd 965 also the upgrade is less the 580 bucks and will bring me
stable gaming and a processor for at least the next 2-3 years.

And this is my first intel buy i am an amd guy and was really disappointed at bulldozer.

Yes eventually i will be taking it to 5 ghz liquid cooled. Right now money wasn't the issue and i don't want to wait for ivy bridge which will only be about a 3% improvement.

Yes i also realize 16g is too much but, for 89 bucks? 8 gigs cost 70 its really a no brainer.

LoL, what is this 2600k failed overclocking? Have you even looked into what people have achieved overclocking the 2600ks? They overclock just fine. If they didn't, people would not waste the money on the k cpus. Hyperthreading is a decent thing to have, but for $100+ more, that is splurging as it will add little real world improvement.

And ivy bridge will add a little more than 3% improvement, I can guarantee that.

intel basically took a 2600k turned up the clocks on it a bit and called it a 2700k. They overclocked a 2600k for you

Money not being a problem doesn't make it a good idea to waste it.

I'm done with you guys want to argue? go screw yourself how about nice deal hey you only paid 10 more dollars nice job. Want to criticize me go jump off a bridge.

I have been doing this for a very long time. i paid 339 for a 2700k the 2600k at the time cost 329.

I remember spending 800 bucks a 1ghz processor in 1998 do you?

it was 10 dollars more
not 100 dollars

What video card do you use with this?

It's not that its a bad deal or anything, but you wouldn't buy a Ferrari when you really just need a Toyota/Honda/Chevy/not-super-expensive.

Plus, pulling an Appeal to Tradition won't get you anywhere... just sayin'...

Whoa, take it easy. If you feel good about your purchase, that is all that matters. No need for the harsh words.

I was simply questioning if you really need the 2700k over the 2600k or even the 2500k. Then, after hearing your incorrect statement about every cpu that is not a 2700k is faulty, I had to correct it.

And the $100 more was referring to the 2500k (thus the reference to hyperthreading) cost vs the 2700k cost, though it is probably a little more.
