My setup is very similar to your with the FX 4100, Ram, and 970 northbridge Mobo. The 4100 can easily Overclock to 4.6Ghz with the included stock AMD cooler. I will be adding the Corsair Hydro H60 water cooler to the FX 4100 to reach higher OC speeds.
The bad thing about the FX chip is that it was supposed to be better than the Phenom II's, but the Phenom's are way faster than the FX. Reason why is because the FX chip is not made for Windows 7, it was made for Windows 8 architecture. So don't feel bad about having a slowers chip than the previous editions because when Win 8 comes out then it will redeem itself as king of the AMD processor line.

I love it so far. Even with my crappy GPU I'm pulling 60FPS on BF:BC2 and I'm buying a new case soon to replace my crappy one. Also look into a really nice air cooler. I'm hearing from some pretty avid overclockers that a nice air cooler will do a better job for overclocking than liquid. provided you aren't going over like 5.3GHz
